Study programme aims and objectives
Study programme aims, objectives:
-To provide students with

comprehensive theoretical and specialized knowledge and skills human resources professionals need for working in public, private and third sector organizations and thus contribute to the quality of personnel management in Estonia.
- To create conditions for acquiring science-based education and professional skills identified in the Professional Standard for Personnel Management, levels VI and VII, and in conformity with EAPM (European Association of People Management) directions.
- To provide professional competencies that enable HR managers and specialists to efficiently and professionally develop personnel strategy and policy suitable for the organization to achieve set goals and to counsel the leaders of an organisation in the field of human resource management.
- To create opportunities for acquiring competencies to conduct research in the field of human resources and thus contribute to evidence-based human resource management in Estonia.

Learning outcomes of the study programme
Upon successful completion of the curriculum, the graduate:

- demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of human resource management and applies it in their areas of specialization;
- understands the strategic importance of human resource management in a broader context of organizational management;
- is able to assess the impact of societal and economic regulatory mechanisms and processes on the functioning of the organization, working environment and employment relationships;
- has the competence to initiate field-specific problem-solving activities and participate in expert discussions and counsel the management of an organisation on human resource management issues;
- is able to apply appropriate theories and research methods to carry out organisation and human resource surveys and analyse and interpret the results;
- acts professionally in difficult situations at work, is aware of the ethical aspects of work and the impact of a human resource manager’s role on the organization and in the society in general;
- critically assesses the level of his/her own knowledge and skills in a changing socio-economic environment and possesses the skills needed for independent life-long learning;
- has acquired profound methodological and research skills to continue studies at doctoral level.

Graduation requirements
Completion of the curriculum in the required amount, and the successful defence of the graduation paper in conformity with the requirements set by the TalTech Senate.
In order to obtain Cum Laude diploma the graduation paper must be defended for the grade "5" and the weighted average grade must be at least 4,60, where all grades from diploma supplement are taken into account.

      Upon completion of this module the student:
      - has a systematic understanding about the essence of entrepreneurship and it’s processes,

      about the principles of business planning process, and about the main aspects of the activities of enterprises in the context of external business environment;
      - understands the theoretical bases and principles of management and organization development, their analysis and assessment methods, and is able to take them into account in making management decisions;
      - has knowledge of contemporary concepts and methods of strategic management that enable them to analyse, understand and solve issues related to the creation and implementation of human resource management strategies;
      - is able to predict and plan for the organisation, the need for labour;
      - can design and implement effective human resource management strategy and that is key to maintaining and developing organisational success and competitive advantage and understands the elaboration of personnel policy which is consistent with organisation goals, values and strategies;
      - understands financial accounting as part of the accounting system and has acquired basic understanding of cost management;
      - is familiar with the principles and practice of financial accounting and cost management and can analyse the relationship with personnel management;
      - understands the importance of communication management and is able to analyse the effectiveness of communication systems based on different concepts, demonstrates the ability to implement them on individual, group, and organisational levels and in a variety of situations;

      Aims
      The module helps the student to gain experience of conducting independent research and gain a deeper understanding of subjects related to human resource management.
      Learning outcomes
      Upon the successful completion of the module the student:
      - has an in-depth knowledge of the functioning and problems of one specific field of human resource management;


      - formulates a research problem related to the specialty and based on specialized and scientific literature, finds arguments to confirm the research problem;
      - formulates the aim of the thesis and research questions/hypotheses to achieve the aim;
      - chooses the corresponding theoretical approach and research methodology to solve the research problem;
      - prepares a theoretical analysis based on scientific principles and scientific and specialized literature, using scientific language and professional terms, while searching for a solution to a research problem;
      - collects and processes data to the extent and quality necessary to solve the research problem;
      - critically evaluates research results, interprets them and draws conclusions in the context of existing professional and scientific knowledge;
      - justifies his/her views both in writing and in public defense;
      - knows the requirements for the thesis and knows how to formalize the work based on them, is strictly honest in referencing and does not use plagiarism.
