VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Kujundada süsteemne ettekujutus levinumate keemiliste elementide ning nende lihtainete ja ühendite omadustest ja tähtsusest, omandada praktilised oskused tööks keemialaboris ainete omaduste määramisel, kindlustada järgnevateks keemia- ja erialaainete kursusteks vajaliku keemiaalaste teadmiste taset.
course aims in English
To form systematic notion of wide-spread chemical elements and their elementary substances and compounds properties and importance, to acquire practical skills of working in a chemical laboratory for determination of substances' properties, to ensure the level of knowledge required to study the next chemical and specialized courses.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Aine sooritanud üliõpilane (1) tunneb tähtsamate keemiliste elementide omadusi nii üldistatult (elemendirühmade tasemel) kui konkreetsete elementide lõikes; (2) tunneb anorgaaniliste ainete rahvusvahelist nomenklatuuri; (3) tunneb kompleksühendite põhitüüpe, nomenklatuuri, omadusi ning kasutusalasid; (4) oskab seletada ning põhjendada keemiliste elementide ja nende ühendite omadusi seoses nende asendiga elementide perioodilisussüsteemis; (5) oskab rakendada aine ehituse põhiseisukohti anorgaaniliste ainete omaduste iseloomustamisel, seostada ainete omadusi keemilise sideme tüübi ning aine struktuuriga; (6) oskab kirjutada anorgaaniliste aineklassidele iseloomulike reaktsioonide võrrandeid ja neid tasakaalustada; (7) oskab lahendada ainekavale vastavaid arvutusülesandeid; (8) omab praktilisi laboratoorse töö oskusi anorgaaniliste ainete omaduste määramiseks.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After passing the course a student (1) knows the properties of the most important chemical elements both in general (on the level of elements groups) and by concrete elements; (2) knows international nomenclature of inorganic substances; (3) knows the main types of complex compounds, nomenclature, properties and fields of application; (4) can explain and justify chemical elements and their compounds properties concerning their arrangement in the periodic classification; (5) is able to apply concepts of substance structure when characterizing the properties of inorganic substances, to relate properties of substances with the type of chemical bond and substance structure; (6) can describe the equations of the reactions typical for inorganic substance classes and balance them; (7) can solve calculation tasks corresponding to the syllabus; (8) acquires practical skills of laboratory work for determination inorganic substances' properties.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Kompleksühendid, nende nomenklatuur. Anorgaaniliste ainete nomenklatuur. Tähtsamad elemendirühmad (s-elemendid, halogeenid, kalkogeenid, lämmastiku ja süsiniku rühmade elemendid, d-elemendid). Käsitletakse elementide saamist, füüsikalisi ja keemilisi omadusi, tähtsamaid ühendeid, tüüpilisi reaktsioone, kasutamist. Korrosioon. Redoksreaktsioonid.
Harjutused: stöhhiomeetrilised arvutused, sh saagise, kadude, lisandite, liia, limiteeriva reagendi, gaasiliste ainete osaluse jm faktorite arvesse võtmisega seotud arvutused; redoksprotsessidega seotud arvutused.
Praktikum: kompleksühendid ja nende omadused, keemiliste elementide ja nende ühendite omadused, redoksprotsessid.
brief description of the course in English
Complex compounds, their nomenclature. Inorganic substances nomenclature. The most important elemental groups (s-elements, haloids, chalcogens, elements of nitrogen and carbon groups, d-elements). Elements obtaining, physical and chemical properties, the most important compounds, typical reactions and use are considered. Corrosion. Redox reactions.
Exercises: stoichiometric calculations, including yield, losses, additives, excess, limiting reactant, gaseous substances participation and other factors taking into account relevant calculations; calculations relevant to redox processes.
Laboratory course: complex compounds and their properties, chemical elements and their compounds properties, redox processes.

independent study in Estonian
Iseseisva töö orienteeruvaks mahuks eeldatakse 90-92 tundi. Sellest 24 tundi (ca 1,5 tundi nädalas) on mõeldud aine teoreetilise osa iseseisvaks läbitöötamiseks, 32 tundi (ca 2,0 tundi nädalas) harjutusülesannete lahendamiseks, 16 tundi (ca 1 tund nädalas) laboritööde andmete töötlemiseks ja tööde vormistamiseks, 10 tundi kontrolltöödeks ja 10 tundi eksamiks ettevalmistamiseks. Semestri jooksul tuleb sooritada 3 kontrolltööd, ja laboritööd. Labori- ja kontrolltööde arvu ja eksami läbiviimise vormi määrab õppejõud semestri alguses.
independent study in English
Supposed volume of independent work is about 90-92 hours. Herein 24 hours (ca 1,5 hours per a week) are intended for lectures materials self-dependent elaborating, 32 hours (ca 2,0 hours per a week) for exercise tasks solving, 16 hours (ca 1 hour per a week) for laboratory data processing and works forming, 10 hours for the tests and 10 hours for exam preparation. Three tests and laboratory works should be executed during semester. The number of laboratory works and tests as well as the form of exam are decided by the teacher at the beginning of the semester.
