Anda õppurile ülevaade keemia põhialustest kaasaegsel teaduslikul tasemel; arendada keemiaalase süsteemse mõtlemise, ülesannete lahendamise oskust; omandada praktilised laboratoorse töö oskused, õpetada töötama keemialaboris ohutult; luua alus järgnevate keemiakursuste omandamiseks.

To give overview of the main fundamentals of Chemistry at the up-to-date scientific level; to develop systematic thinking in the field of Chemistry, ability to solve the tasks; enable to acquire practical skills of laboratory work, to teach to work in a chemical laboratory safely; to create basis for acquiring the next courses in Chemistry.

Kursuse läbinu: (1) omab kaasaegset ettekujutust aatomite, molekulide ja erinevates olekus olevate ainete ehitusest; (2) tunneb liht- ja liitainete füüsikalis-keemiliste omaduste muutuste seaduspärasusi olenevalt keemiliste elementide kohast perioodilisuse süsteemis, aine koostisest ja ehitusest ning oskab neid omadusi ennustada; (3) oskab kasutada termodünaamika ja kineetika seadusi keemiliste protsesside kirjeldamisel ning analüüsida ainete reaktsioonivõimet olenevalt reaktsiooni tingimustest; (4) omab teadmisi lahustest ja nende omadustest, tunneb erinevaid lahuse kontsentratsiooni väljendusviise (massiprotsent, molaarne, molaalne ja molaarne ekvivalentne kontsentratsioon) ja lahendab lahuste valmistamise, lahjendamise ning segamisega seotud arvutusülesandeid; (5) tunneb elektrokeemia põhialuseid ja elektrokeemiliste protsesside rakendusalasid (keemilised vooluallikad ja kütuseelemendid, elektrolüüsiseadmed, galvaanika jt); (6) oskab lahendada arvutusülesandeid: arvutused aine hulga, massi ja gaasi ruumala seoste abil; arvutused reaktsioonivõrrandite alusel, arvestades saagist, kadu, lisandeid, ülehulka; (7) tunneb tähtsamaid laboritehnika võtteid ja oskab teostada põhilisi operatsioone (kaalumine, vedelike ruumala mõõtmine ja tiheduse määramine, kuumutamine ja jahutamine, filtrimine, tsentrifuugimine, tahkete ainete peenestamine ja kuivatamine, lahuste valmistamine); (8) tunneb ohutustehnika reegleid ja oskab töötada keemialaboris ohutult.

After passing the course a student: (1) acquires modern notion of the structures of atoms, molecules and substances being in different state; (2) knows regularity of simple and complex substances physical-chemical properties change depending on the place of the element in the periodic system, composition and structure of a substance and can predict their properties; (3) can apply laws of Thermodynamics and Kinetics when describing chemical processes and analyze reactivity of the substances depending on the reaction conditions; (4) acquires knowledge of solutions and their properties, knows different ways of expression of solution concentration (mass percent, molar, molal and molar equivalent concentration) and solves calculation tasks on solutions preparation, dilution and compounding; (5) knows fundamentals of Electrochemistry and fields of electrochemical processes application (current generator cells and combustion cells, electrolytic equipment, galvanic etc.); (6) can solve calculation tasks: calculation of a substance quantity, mass and gas volume with the help of connections; calculations on the basis of chemical equations considering yield, loss, additives, excess; (7) knows the most important means of the laboratory techniques and can carry out the basic operations (weighting, liquid volume measuring and density determination, heating and cooling, filtration, centrifugation, solid substances crushing and drying, solutions preparation); (8) knows the rules of safety technology and can work in a chemical laboratory safely.

Loengud. Aatomid. Keemiliste elementide perioodilisuse süsteem. Keemiline side. Molekulide kuju. Gaaside omadused. Vedelikud ja tahkised. Termodünaamika alused. Füüsikaline ja keemiline tasakaal. Keemilise kineetika alused. Lahused, lahuste kontsentratsioon ja omadused. Elektrolüütide lahused. Happed ja alused. Elektrokeemia põhimõisted.
Harjutused. Arvutused aine hulga, massi ja gaasi ruumala seoste abil; arvutused reaktsioonivõrrandite alusel, arvestades saagist, kadu, lisandeid, ülehulka; erinevad lahuse kontsentratsiooni väljendusviisid (massiprotsent, molaarne, molaalne ja molaarne ekvivalentne kontsentratsioon) ja nendevahelised seosed; lahuste valmistamise, lahjendamise ning segamisega seotud arvutusülesanded.
Praktikum. Keemialabori sisustus. Tööohutus keemialaboris. Laboritöö protokolli koostamise ja vormistamise nõuded. Laboratoorsete tööde vahendid. Reaktiivid: liigitamine, märgistamine, hoidmine. Tähtsamad laboritehnika võtted: kaalumine, vedelike ruumala mõõtmine, ainete peenestamine, kuumutamine ja jahutamine, filtrimine, tsentrifuugimine, tahkete ainete kuivatamine. Lahuste valmistamine (koos juurdekuuluvate arvestustega). Lahuse kontsentratsiooni määramine tiheduse järgi ja tiitrimise teel. Töö gaasidega, gaasiballoonid. Keemilised eksperimendid õppejõu valikul.

Lectures. Atoms. Periodic system of chemical elements. Bond. Molecules shape. Properties of gases. Liquids and solids. Fundamentals of Thermodynamics. Physical and chemical balance. Fundamentals of Chemical Kinetics. Solutions, solutions' concentration and properties. Electrolytes' solutions. Acids and bases. The main concepts of Electrochemistry.
Exercises. Calculation of a substance quantity, mass and gas volume with the help of connections; calculations on the basis of chemical equations considering yield, loss, additives, excess; different ways of expression of solution concentration (mass percent, molar, molal and molar equivalent concentration) and their interrelations; solutions preparation, dilution and compounding calculation tasks.
Practical training. Chemical laboratory furnishings. Work safety in a chemical laboratory. The requirements for laboratory work protocol compiling and forming. Laboratory works facilities. Reagents: classification, marking, storage. The most important means of the laboratory technique: weighting, liquid volume measuring, substances crushing, heating and cooling, filtration, centrifugation, solid substance drying. Solutions preparation (with belonging calculations). Determination of solution concentration by density and by titration. Work with gases, gas-cylinders. Chemical experiments by the choice of the lecturer.
