VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- anda üliõpilasele ülevaade keemia põhialustest kaasaegsel teaduslikul tasemel;
- luua teoreetiline ja praktiline alus keemiliste nähtuste aruteluks ning analüüsiks.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to:
- provide the student with an overview of the fundamentals of chemistry at a modern scientific level;
- establish a theoretical and practical foundation for the discussion and analysis of chemical phenomena.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- tunneb keemia põhimõisteid ja seadusi, keemiliste reaktsioonide kulgemise seaduspärasusi, anorgaaniliste ja orgaaniliste ainete põhiklasse, tähtsamaid ühendeid, nende rakendusalasid;
- tunneb „rohelise“ keemia printsiipe;
- loob seoseid keemia ja praktilise inseneritegevuse vahel;
- leiab, analüüsib kriitiliselt ja sünteesib keemiaalast teavet, rakendades süstemset lähenemist määratud probleemide lahendamisel;
- rakendab keemiaalaseid teadmisi keemiaeksperimendi planeerimisel, teostamisel ja tulemuste analüüsimisel;
- teeb arvutusi, mis on seotud keemiliste reaktsioonidega, tasakaaludega, termodünaamika ja kineetikaga.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course the student:
- understands the basic principles and laws of chemistry, the regularities of chemical reactions, the main classes of inorganic and organic substances, important compounds, and their applications;
- is familiar with the principles of 'green' chemistry;
- establishes connections between chemistry and practical engineering activities;
- finds, critically analyses, and synthesizes chemical information, applying a systematic approach to solving specified problems;
- applies chemical knowledge in planning, conducting, and analysing the results of chemical experiments;
- performs calculations related to chemical reactions, equilibria, thermodynamics, and kinetics.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Teooria. Keemia põhimõisted ja seadused. Keemilised elemendid. Aatomite, molekulide, kristalsete ainete struktuur. Keemiliste elementide perioodilisuse tabeli seaduspärasused. Keemiline side. Keemilised reaktsioonid, stöhhiomeetria, reaktsioonide tüübid. Reaktsioonikiirus. Termokeemia. Keemiline tasakaal. Anorgaaniliste ainete põhiklassid. Tähtsamad anorgaanilised ained. Disperssed süsteemid ja lahused. Elektrolüütide ja mitteelektrolüütide lahused. Elektrokeemia. Kaasaegsed keemilised vooluallikad (liitiumakud, kütuseelemendid). Orgaaniliste ainete põhiklassid. Tähtsamad orgaanilised ained. Kütused. Looduslikud ja sünteetilised polümeerid. „Roheline“ keemia.
Laboratoorsed tööd. Keemiakatsed õppejõu valikul. Katsed on üles ehitatud iseseisva teadusliku uurimistööna: probleemi püstitamine, selle teoreetiline põhjendus ja eksperimentaalne kontrollimine.
Harjutused. Keemilised ülesanded rakendusliku sisuga õppejõu valikul.
brief description of the course in English
Theory. Basic principles and laws of chemistry. Chemical elements. Structure of atoms, molecules, and crystalline substances. Periodic table patterns of chemical elements. Chemical bonding. Chemical reactions, stoichiometry, types of reactions. Reaction rate. Thermochemistry. Chemical equilibrium. Basic classes of inorganic substances. Major inorganic compounds. Dispersed systems and solutions. Electrolyte and non-electrolyte solutions. Electrochemistry. Modern chemical power sources (lithium batteries, fuel cells). Basic classes of organic substances. Major organic compounds. Fuels. Natural and synthetic polymers. "Green" chemistry.
Laboratory work. Chemistry experiments at the discretion of the lecturer. Experiments are designed as independent scientific research: problem formulation, theoretical justification, and experimental verification.
