The aim of this course is to give basic introductory knowledge in the field of structural design, including the design process, structural components, loads, and the fundamental principles of providing reliability of structural behavior.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- analüüsib iseseisvalt konstruktsioonielementide osa ehitises kui tervikus;
- kasutab ehitise ohutuse hindamisel koormuste koosmõju arvestamise juhendmaterjale;
- oskab määrata koormusi ehitiste põhitüüpidele konstruktsiooniarvutustes;
- selgitab olemasoleva ehitise ohutuse hindamise põhilisi meetodeid.

After completing this course, the student:
- analyses independently the role of structural elements within a building as an integrated whole;
- uses guidelines for assessing interaction of loads on buildings;
- is able to determine the loads for structural analysis for typical structural systems;
- explains basic methods for assessing safety of existing buildings.

Konstruktiivse süsteemi valik ehitise projekteerimisel, erinevate skeemide mõju ehitusprotsessile. Ehitiskonstruktsioonidele kehtestatud põhinõuded ja nende tagamise meetodid. Ohutuse ja töökindluse tagamise tõenäosuslikud alused. Ehitisele mõjuvad koormused ja koormuskombinatsioonid – omakaal, tuul, lumi, kasuskoormus. Koormuste määramine tüüpilistele ehitistele.

Selection of a structural system during the building design process and the influence of different structural schemes on the construction process. Fundamental requirements for building structures and methods for ensuring compliance. Probabilistic principles of ensuring safety and reliability. Loads acting on buildings and relevant load combinations – self-weight, wind, snow, and imposed loads. Load determination for typical buildings.
