This course will provide an overview of some of the key issues of
Estonian culture, discussing the influences, such as historical precedent or social context, that
have marked its development. By means of visiting museums and different cultural events (both
as a group and individually), students will develop an improved understanding of cultural life here
in Estonia, with emphasis on art, architecture and design. Students are expected to be active
participants of the course by attending seminars and artist talks, making presentations, etc.

As a result of the course, students will understand selected
topics, tendencies, and perspectives of cultural life in Estonia. They will also comprehend its
wider context (historical, social, economical, political). Through a direct contact with different
venues and platforms, students will grasp the position of art, architecture and design in Estonian
society and will be able to analyze their own experiences relation towards it.
