- toetada ja julgustada magistrante oma lõputöö kirjutamisel, luua alused akadeemilise
uurimuse iseseisvaks teostamiseks;
- aidata mõista uurimise olemust ja protsessi, vajalikku eeltööd ja eeldusi;
- anda lühiülevaade humanitaarteaduslikest meetoditest ja metodoloogiatest;
- tutvustada teadustööle esitatavaid nõudeid ja tavasid-põhimõtteid;
- anda tehniliste, vormistuslike ja viitamisega seotud nõudmiste rakendamise kogemus;
- pakkuda võimalust oma algusjärgus mõtete testimiseks, tagasiside saamiseks.

- To provide a general overview of the academic writing process.
- To give an overview of, and to suggest approaches to the main parts of the master’s thesis
(literature review, theoretical part, methodology (qualitative research methods), analysis and
discussion).
- To increase the academic vocabulary.
- To improve the knowledge of grammar and sentence structures used in academic writing.
- To support students in their thesis writing in terms of language and structure.

Kursuse läbinud üliõpilane oskab
- leida kirjandust jm materjale ning kasutada neid allikakriitiliselt;
- püstitada uurimisprobleemi;
- uurimust üles ehitada ja struktureerida;
- korrektselt viidata kasutatud allikatele;
- eetiliselt uurimistööle läheneda, sh. ära tunda plagiaati.

- The students are able to use words and expressions typical of academic English in their
writing.
- The students know how to use the work of other authors in their writing (summarizing,
paraphrasing, referencing).
- The students know how to present their own ideas and arguments in writing.

- The students are familiar with the main stages in the process of writing a master’s thesis,
and know some strategies and approaches regarding the writing of different parts of their
thesis.
- The students are able to analyse their own writing in terms of coherence and structural logic.
