VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Arendada teadmisi peamiste nähtuste osas reaktorifüüsikas, tutvustada tuumareaktorite ohutu toimimise aluseid, kirjeldada enamlevinumaid reaktoritehnoloogiaid (PWR, BWR) ja nende peamisi komponente, kirjeldada uute, vähemlevinud reaktoritehnoloogiate kontsepte.
course aims in English
Develop understanding of the main concepts behind reactor physics, how nuclear reactors safely operate, the main elements of existing reactors (PWRs and BWRs) and a basic understanding of advanced reactor concepts.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- rakendab oluisemaid reaktorifüüsika teooriaid erinevate reaktoritehnoloogiate uurimiseks;
- kirjeldab erinevaid erinevaid reaktoritehnoloogiaid.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course the student:
- applies the main principles of reactor theory to understand different reactors;
- describes common reactor designs.
brief description of the course in Estonian
brief description of the course in English
The course will start with a brief introduction to the fundamentals nuclear physics, nuclear reactions and neutron-matter interactions in order to give everyone attending the necessary minimal background.
The introductory part is followed by in-depth discussion of fission reactions and the relevant concepts such as neutron life-cycle, and the simplified modelling of multiplying media. The neutron diffusion model, the workhorse of full reactor analysis, will be studied with numerical exercises in Python. We will advance to the study of heterogenous reactos and a study of nuclear reactor dynamics of pressurized water reactors using a Python-based nuclear reactor simulator. We will finish with an overview of different types of nuclear reactors.
