- haridustaseme tõstmine elektromagnetismi ja optika valdkonnas, mis on vajalik erialakursuse omandamiseks tehnilistel, tehnoloogilistel ja reaalerialadel;
- süsteemse, teaduslikul alusel põhineva füüsikalise maailmapildi kujundamine.

- raising the level of education in electromagnetism and optics, higher level is needed for technical, technological and science courses;
- shaping a systematic, physics based view of the world by applying the scientific method.

- teab ja saab aru elektromagnetismi ja optika seadustest, mudelitest ja nende rakendatavuse piiridest;
- oskab kasutada füüsikalisi suurusi, ühikuid, vektoralgebrat, diferentsiaal- ja integraalarvutust elektromagnetismi ja optika probleemide analüüsil ning lahendamisel;
- tunneb füüsikakatsete läbiviimise põhialuseid ja oskab hinnata katsetulemusi, teab tulemuste mõõtemääramatust;
- oskab kasutada elektromagnetismi ja optikat inseneriteadustega seotud probleemide analüüsil ja iseseisva töö korral kirjandusega;
- oskab seostada elektromagnetismi ja optikat tehnika toimimise ja meid ümbritseva elukeskkonna nähtuste kirjeldamisel ja analüüsil.

- knows and understands the laws and models including the limits of their applicability of electromagnetism and optics;
- able to use physical quantities, units, algebra of vectors, and calculus in analyzing and solving electromagnetical and optical problems;
- is familiar with the basics of physical experiments, is able to interpret the results, and is aware of the uncertainties of these results;
- is able to apply electromagnetism and optics to the analysis of technical problems and independent research;
- able to make connections to electromagnetism and optics while describing and analyzing the phenomenons in our surrounding environment.

Elektromagnetismi põhialused. Elektrostaatika. Magnetostaatika. Aine elektrilised ja magnetilised omadused. Alalisvoolu seadused. Elektromagnetiline induktsioon. Maxwelli võrrandid. Elektri- ja magnetvälja relativistlik teisenemine. Elektromagnetvõnkumised. Elektromagnetlained. Geomeetrilise optika alused. Laineoptika. Interferents, difraktsioon, polarisatsioon, dispersioon. Elektri, magnetismi ja optika laboritööd. Füüsikalised mõõtmised ja mõõtemääramatuse hindamine. Harjutusülesannete ja seminariteemade valikul arvestatakse teaduskondade eripära ja soovitusi.

Fundamentals of electromagnetism. Electrostatics. Magnetostatics. Electric and magnetic properties of matter. Electric current. Laws of direct current. Electromagnetic induction. Faraday's law. Maxwell's equations. Relativistic transformation of electric and magnetic fields. Electromagnetic oscillations. Alternating current. Electromagnetic waves. Fundamentals of geometrical optics. Wave optics. Interference, diffraction, polarization, dispersion. Physical measurements and estimation of uncertainty. Laboratory experiments of electricity, magnetism and optics.

The requirements for being able to take the exam:
Two written tests are required during the course of semester.
Laboratory experiments of Physics II and exam of Physics I have to be done.
