- haridustaseme tõstmine mehaanikas, molekulaarfüüsikas ja termodünaamikas, mis on vajalik erialakursuse omandamiseks tehnilistel, tehnoloogilistel ja reaalerialadel;
- süsteemse, füüsikalise maailmapildi kujundamine teaduslikul alusel.

- raising the level of education in mechanics, molecular physics and thermodynamics, higher level is needed for technical, technological and science courses;
- shaping a systematic, physics based view of the world by applying the scientific method.

- teab ja saab aru mehaanika, molekulaarfüüsika, termodünaamika, seadustest, mudelitest ja nende rakendatavuse piiridest;
- oskab kasutada füüsikalisi suurusi, ühikuid, vektoralgebrat, diferentsiaal- ja integraalarvutust mehaanika ja termodünaamika probleemide analüüsil ning lahendamisel;
- tunneb füüsikakatsete läbiviimise põhialuseid ja oskab hinnata katsetulemusi, teab tulemuste mõõtemääramatust;
- oskab kasutada mehaanikat, termodünaamikat inseneriteadustega seotud probleemide analüüsil ja iseseisva töö korral kirjandusega;
- oskab seostada mehaanikat ja termodünaamikat tehnika toimimise ja meid ümbritseva elukeskkonna nähtuste kirjeldamisel ja analüüsil.

- knows and understands the laws and models including the limits of their applicability of mechanics, molecular physics and thermodynamics;
- able to use physical quantities, units, algebra of vectors, and calculus in analyzing and solving physical problems;
- is familiar with the basics of physical experiments, is able to interpret the results, and is aware of the uncertainties of these results;
- is able to apply mechanics and thermodynamics to the analysis of technical problems and independent research;
- able to make connections to mechanics and thermodynamics while describing and analyzing the phenomenon in our surrounding environment.

Klassikalise mehaanika füüsikalised alused. Punktmassi ja süsteemi kinemaatika ja dünaamika. Newtoni seadused. Gravitatsioon. Jõuväli. Satelliitide liikumine. Töö ja võimsus. Punktmassi ja mehaaniliste süsteemide kineetiline, potentsiaalne ning koguenergia. Pöördliikumine. Jäävusseadused. Mehaanilised võnkumised ja lained. Vedelike ja gaaside voolamine. Erirelatiivsusteooria alused. Molekulaarfüüsika ja termodünaamika alused. Termodünaamika põhiseadused. Entroopia. Ülekandenähtused. Füüsikalised mõõtmised ja mõõtemääramatuse hindamine. Mehaanika ja molekulaarfüüsika laboritööd. Harjutusülesannete ja seminariteemade valikul arvestatakse teaduskonna eripära ja soovitusi.

Physical bases of Newtonian mechanics. Motion and dynamics of a point mass (particle) and rigid body (systems of particles). Newton's laws. Gravitation. Force field. Motion of satellites. Work and power. Kinetic, potential and mechanical energy. Rotation. The laws of conservation. Mechanical oscillations and waves. Flow of liquids and gases. The principles of relativity. Fundamentals of molecular physics and thermodynamics. Basic laws of thermodynamics. Concept of entropy. Transport phenomena. Physical measurements and estimation of uncertainty. Laboratory experiments of mechanics and molecular physics.
