course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on anda rahvusvaheliselt tunnustatud teoreetilised teadmised ja praktilised oskused laeva juhtimises vastavalt STCW koodeksi koos muudatustega osa A-II/1 nõuetele. Õppija omandab teadmised laeva juhtimise teoreetilistest alustest, keskkonnaolude ning väliste ja sisemiste jõudude mõjust laeva juhitavusele. Õppija omandab oskuse juhtida laeva erinevates oludes: tuules ja tormis, jääoludes, madalvees, kitsustes ja jõgedes. Omandab oskused manööverdada laevaga sildumis-, ankru-, reidi- ja avamereoperatsioonide käigus. Saab arusaama pukserite, põtkurseadmete, erinevate rooli- ja käitursüsteemide kasutamisest ning laeva manööverdusvõime tõhustamise tehnilistest vahenditest.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to provide internationally recognised theoretical knowledge and practical skills in ship handling in accordance with STCW-78 as amended part A-II/1 requirements. The learner will acquire knowledge of the theoretical foundations of ship handling, as well as the effects of environmental conditions and both external and internal forces on ship manoeuvrability. The learner will develop the ability to handle a vessel in various conditions: in wind and storm, in ice, in shallow waters, in confined waters, and on rivers. Skills will also be acquired for manoeuvring the ship during berthing, anchoring, anchorage, and open sea operations. The learner will gain an understanding of the use of tugs, bow thrusters, various steering and propulsion systems, and technical means to improve the manoeuvrability of the vessel.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab laeva juhtimise teoreetilisi aluseid;
- kasutab laeva juhtimisvahendeid manööverdamisel;
- juhib laeva ekspluatatsioonitasemel igasugustes keskkonnaoludes: tuule, hoovuse, tormi, madalvee ja kitsuse tingimustes ning jääoludes;
- sooritab manöövreid laevaga sildumis-, ankru-, reidi- ja avamereoperatsioonide käigus;
- kasutab puksereid ja manööverdamist tõhustavaid meetmeid ning tehnilisi vahendeid;
- on võimeline ekspluatatsioonitasandil osalema kõigis laeva juhtimisega seotud tegevustes.

After completing this course the student:
- explains the theoretical foundations of ship handling;
- uses ship handling tools for manoeuvring;
- operates the vessel at operational level in all environmental conditions: in wind, current, storm, shallow waters, confined waters, and ice conditions;
- performs manoeuvres with the vessel during berthing, anchoring, anchorage, and open sea operations;
- uses tugs and measures and technical means to enhance manoeuvring;
- is capable, at operational level, of participating in all activities related to ship handling.
