Õppeaine eesmärk on omandada makromajanduslike mudelite abil teadmisi makromajanduse toimimise üldistest seaduspärasustest ja mehhanismidest; teadvustada mikro- ja makrotasandite omavahelist seotust; näha riigi majanduspoliitika teostamise vahendeid ja vastuolulisi lähenemisi majanduse põhiprobleemidele ning nende lahendustele.

The aim of this course is to obtain knowledge of the principles and mechanisms of macroeconomy using macroeconomic models, to become aware of the interlinks between the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels of economy; to understand the means of macroeconomic policy-making; to see the differences between the approaches to the main problems of the economy and their solutions.

Üliõpilane:
- kasutab makroökonoomika põhimõisteid, -seoseid ja baasteooriaid ülesannete ja probleemide lahendamisel võttes aluseks erinevaid lähenemisviise(verbaalne, matemaatiline, graafiline, loogiline);
- rakendab (antud kursuse temaatika piirides) makrotasandi põhimudeleid ja tuletab, tõestab ning põhjendab iseseisvalt ülesannete lahendusi;
- kogub ja võrdleb teemakohast infot (statistilised andmed, aruanded, ülevaated, artiklid jt), andes nendele omapoolse kriitilise hinnangu;
- kujundab oma seisukoha rühmatöös, diskuteerides, analüüsides ja lahendades makrotasandi probleemülesandeid ning esitledes töö tulemusi;
- hindab kriitiliselt ja väärtustab riigi põhilisi majanduspoliitilisi abinõusid ning nende võimalikke tagajärgi;
- rakendab majandusteoreetilisi teadmisi majanduse analüüsimisel ja probleemülesannete lahendamisel.

The student:
- is able to use the main macroeconomic concepts, relations and theories when solving exercises and problems based on various approaches: verbal, mathematical, graphical, logical);
- applies the main macro-level models covered within the scope of this course and independently work out, prove and justify the solutions to the problems;
- collects and compares relevant information (statistical data, reports, reviews, articles etc.) and evaluates them critically;
- formulates a position on macro-level issues by discussing, analysing and solving problems during group work and presenting the results;
- critically evaluates the main macroeconomic policies and their possible outcomes;
- applies his/her knowledge of economic theory when analysing the economy and solving the problems.

The subject and data of macroeconomics; national income, Cobb-Douglas production function; money and inflation; the open economy; unemployment; capital accumulation and population growth; economic growth and technology; economic fluctuations, aggregate demand and aggregate supply; building and applying the IS-LM model; the small open economy and the Mundell-Fleming model; aggregate supply and tradeoff between inflation and unemployment; stabilization policy, consumption; investment; money supply and money demand; implications of macroeconomic models and unresolved questions.

Alates õppetöö kolmandast nädalast toimuvad hindelised kontrollid eelmisel nädalal läbitud teemade või nende osade kohta kas rühma harjutustunnis või Moodle'is. Kokku kaheksa hindelist tunnikontrolli (testi), millest lõpphinde arvestusse läheb neli parema tulemusega tööd, igaüks osakaaluga 5 protsenti ning valikuga kaks parema (ja positiivse) tulemusega auditoorset ning kaks Moodle'is tehtud tööd. Kontrolltöö nr 1 toimub õppetöö kaheksandal nädalal oma rühma harjutustunnis ning kontrolltöö nr 2 viiteistkümnenda nädala loengutunnis. Lõpphinde arvutamisel läheb arvesse üks, parema tulemusega ning positiivselt (vähemalt 51 punkti 100st) hinnatud kontrolltöö osakaaluga 20 protsenti.

Starting from the third week of the semester, graded quizzes will assigned on the topics or subtopics covered in the previous week’s lecture. The quizzes will be held in the practical class or on Moodle. In total, there will be eight graded quizzes, out of which two best classroom and two best Moodle quiz scores will be used when calculating the final grade. Each of the four quizzes used will have a weight of 5 per cent.
The first test will take place in the eighth week of the semester during the practical class.
The second test will take place in the fifteenth week of the semester, at the lecture.
The better of the two test results will be used when calculating the final grade (the test will count if the score is at least 51 points out of 100 possible). It will have a weight of 20 per cent.
