Statistika ainekursuse eesmärk on anda õppijatele põhjalikud teadmised ja oskused statistiliste meetodite ning tööriistade kasutamiseks, et koguda, analüüsida ja tõlgendada andmeid. Kursus õpetab, kuidas rakendada statistilisi meetodeid erinevates valdkondades probleemide lahendamiseks, arendada kriitilist mõtlemist kvantitatiivsete andmete töötlemisel ning teha andmetel põhinevaid järeldusi ja otsuseid. Samuti rõhutab kursus statistika tähtsust teaduslikus uurimistöös ja igapäevaelus, aidates õppijatel paremini mõista andmepõhise analüüsi olulisust ja selle rakendatavust.

The aim of the statistics course is to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge and skills in using statistical methods and tools to collect, analyze, and interpret data. The course teaches how to apply statistical methods to solve problems in various fields, develop critical thinking in processing quantitative data, and make data-driven conclusions and decisions. Additionally, the course emphasizes the importance of statistics in scientific research and everyday life, helping learners better understand the significance of data-driven analysis and its applicability.

Peale ainekursuse läbimist üliõpilane:
- kasutab korrektselt kirjeldava ning järeldava statistika termineid ja meetodeid;
- sõnastab põhjendatult uurimisküsimused ja neist lähtuvalt valib sobivad andmeanalüüsi meetodid;
- analüüsib tarkvara abil statistilisi andmeid, kasutades kirjeldava ja järeldava statistika meetodeid;
- tõlgendab ja hindab kriitiliselt andmestikke ja statistilise andmeanalüüsi tulemusi;
- sünteesib ja sõnastab järeldused, tuginedes andmeanalüüsi tulemustele.

After accomplishing the course the student:
- uses descriptive and inferential statistics terms and methods correctly;
- formulates research questions in a justified manner and select appropriate data analysis methods accordingly;
- analyzes statistical data using software, applying descriptive and inferential statistical methods;
- interprets and critically evaluate datasets and the results of statistical data analysis;
- synthesizes and articulates conclusions based on data analysis results.

Andmete visualiseerimine. Statistilised keskmised ja variatsioonnäitarvud. Tõenäosusjaotused. Valikuuringud ja järelduste tegemine üldkogumi kohta. Statistiliste hüpoteeside püstitamine ja testimine. Korrelatsioon- ja regressioonanalüüs. TAAB õppekaval käsitletakse lisaks aegridade analüüsi ja indekseid.

Data visualization. Statistical averages and measures of variation. Probability distributions. Sample surveys and making inferences about the population. Formulating and testing statistical hypotheses. Correlation and regression analysis. In the TAAB curriculum, time series analysis and indices are also covered.
