Majandusteooria intensiivse matematiseerumise tõttu on majandusmatemaatika kursusega vaja panna alus arusaamisele matemaatilistest meetoditest ja mudelitest. Viimased on muutunud näiteks majandusteooria, rahanduse ja turunduse lahutamatuks osaks. Kursuses esitatavad diferentsiaalarvutuse elemendid ja lineaaralgebra koos matemaatilise planeerimise algetega on aluseks mikro- ja makroökonoomika, rahandusteooria ja operatsioonianalüüsi kursuste õppimisel.
Programmi kuuluvat integraalarvutust selles kursuses ei käsitleta, kuna integraalarvutuse rakendusi ärinduse õppekava ained ei kasuta. Algteadmised on saadud gümnaasiumi matemaatika kursusest ja kirjanduse abil võib seda iseseisvalt õppida.

Due to the intensive mathematization of the economics there is a need to give an overview of mathematical methods and models in economics through teaching business mathematics. Mathematical methods and models are inseparable from theory of economics, accounting and marketing. The elements of differential calculus and linear programming covered in the course are the base for learning micro- and macroeconomics, theory of finance and operational analysis.

Pärast ainekursuse läbimist üliõpilane:
- kasutab korrektselt põhilisi matemaatilise analüüsi ja lineaaralgebra mõisteid majandusprobleemide lahendamiseks;
- eristab matemaatilisi meetodeid ja rakendab neid majandusprobleemide lahendamisel;
- hindab kriitiliselt saadud tulemusi ja tõlgendab neid ülesande majandusliku konteksti raames.

After completing the course, the student:
- applies correctly basic concepts of mathematical analysis and linear algebra to solve economic problems;
- distinguishes between mathematical methods and applies them to solve economic problems;
- critically evaluates the obtained results and interprets them within the economic context of the task.

I part
1) calculus of one and multivariate functions (derivative, partial derivatives, total derivative, nonconstrained and constrained optimization, Lagrange method, extremes in the closed domain) and its applications in economics (functions applicable in economics, marginal calculus, profit maximization and cost minimization);

II part
2) linear algebra (matrices, linear dependence, systems of linear equations, the Gauss method);
3) linear programming (primal and dual problems, simplex method, dual simplex method);
4) matrix games
