Kursuse praktiline osa annab ülevaate jätkusuutliku disaini metodoloogiatest, mida on võimalik rakendada erinevatel tasanditel alates materjalide uurimisest kuni protsesside ja süsteemi disainini.
Teemad sisaldavad materjalide keskkonnamõjude hindamist, elutsüklil põhinevat analüüsi, ringmajandusel põhinevat disaini osalust, toodete ja teenuste süsteemi disaini ning kaasavat disaini.
Töö protsess jaguneb kolmeks etapiks, alustades jätkusuutlikkuse erinevatest interpretatsioonidest disainis, jätkub materjalide, eesmärkide ning eelduste analüüsiga ning lõpeb praktilise projektiga, millega kaasneb läbi töötatud ja selgelt artikuleeritud potentsiaalseid võimalusi uuriv osa.

The course creates capacity for learning to address interrelated challenges that are shaping the world we live in. The complexity of humanity's predicament inevitably pushes design to question the meaning and value of the perspectives we have, most importantly the very assumptions we rely on when framing the problems we are dealing with. 
The practical course covers both the development as well as the contemporary methodologies of sustainable design. Thematic areas connect design action to sustainability on several levels ranging from assessment of the micro level of materials to processes and more holistic system design. Topics include systematic frameworks, impact assessment, circular design, product-service system design, and inclusive design. 
The course work will be structured in three interrelated phases. Starting from interpretations of sustainability in design to reflect on and understand the context, continuing with analysis of learning materials, objectives and assumptions, to the development of practical work that should, in addition to the tangible/conceptual outcome, contain assessment, evaluation and articulation of the new possibilities and potentials it holds. 

­ The development of a creative person with a good analytical and systemic thinking competencies, collaboration and team-working skills,
- The development of necessary skills and knowledge in order to implement the integrated process of design thinking and product-service systems design
­ The provision of practical skills and knowledge for the implementation of sustainable entrepreneurship principles
- Understanding of the contexts, meanings and values design can create
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine loengud ja harjutused läbinud üliõpilane:
- Omab jätkusuutliku disaini alusteadmisi
- Oskab rakendada erinevaid jätkusuutliku disaini meetodeid ja uuringuid
- Valdab elutsükli metoodikaid ja analüüsi vahendeid
- Omab teadmisi jätkusuutlikkuse, sotsiaalmajanduslike toimimissüsteemide sidususest ning tunneb seadusraamistikke
- On vastavalt oma spetsialiseerumisele võimeline mõistma oma eriala spetsiifilises kontekstis tekkivaid keskkonnaprobleeme ja oskab arvestada jätkusuutlikkuse aspektidega, oskab hinnata ning toime tulla keskkonna­ ja sotsiaalsete küsimustega toote­ ja teenuse arendusel
- Oskab analüüsida ja hinnata disaini ja toodete arendust jätkusuutlikkuse ja
ökoloogilisuse aspektist
- Orienteerub jätkusuutliku disaini arengusuundades nii Eesti kui rahvusvahelises kontekstis ja valdab jätkusuutliku ja ökodisaini alast terminoloogiat
- Oskab kriitiliselt analüüsida ja mõelda, evib kriitilist enesereflektsiooni võimet, tunneb ja oskab kasutada interdistsiplinaarse töö meetodeid oma professiooni ulatuses
- On võimeline avaldama oma arvamusi nii suuliselt kui kirjalikult erialaspetsiifilistes auditooriumides ja (aja)kirjanduses.

Having completed the lectures and tasks of the course, the student:
- Understands the principles of sustainability in product and system design
- Is able to use sustainable design strategies, methods and tools
- Is able to assess the impacts of design solutions for sustainability
­ Has the knowledge of sustainability, socio­economic functioning systems and legislative framework
­ Can, pursuant to his specialization, understand the environmental problems that may occur in the given context and consider the aspects of sustainability, can evaluate and cope with the environmental and social issues in the product and service development
­ Can analyze, contextualize and evaluate design and product development in the light of sustainability and ecology
­ Knows the development trends of sustainable design in the Estonian and international context and has a command of the terminology related to sustainable and eco­design;
­ Has acquired the skills for conducting critical analysis and critical self­reflection, knows and can use the interdisciplinary methods within the scope of his profession
­ Can express his opinion both in oral and written form in various professional auditoriums and media.

Jätkusuutliku disaini alaste teoreetiliste teadmiste ja praktiliste oskuste arendamine, mis haakub nii Eesti kui rahvusvahelise kõrgharidussüsteemi põhimõtetega, tööturu nõudlusega jätkusuutlike ja keskkonnateadlike teenuste ja toodete arendamisel ja disainierialade prognoositavate arengusuundadega. Jätkusuutliku disaini teoorialoengud ja harjutused annavad üldteoreetilisi ja
metodoloogilisi alusteadmisi keskkonna­ ja humanitaarteaduste vallas, toodete elutsükli sotsiaalsetest­ ja keskkonnamõjudest, mis võimaldab üliõpilasel sidustada valdkonnaspetsiifilisi teadmisi ja arendada analüüsi­, sünteesi­ ja võrdlusoskust ning võimet õpitut seostada erialaküsimuste käsitlemisel.

The course provides students with the development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills of sustainable design related to the principles of both Estonian and international higher education systems. The lectures and practical tasks equip students with the basic theoretical and methodological knowledge of product-service systems for sustainability, the social and environmental impact of products' life cycle, as well develop their analytical and comparative skills and the ability to relate it to the daily professional practices.
