- Õpetada mõistma universaalse disaini tähendust, anda üldteadmised tootearendusest, leiutamise tähtsusest, tänapäeva ja tuleviku tehnoloogiatest ning praktilist kogemust meeskonnatööst tootearendusprojektides.
- Anda teadmisi kaasaegse ergonoomika alustest ja sotsiaalsest tähendusest. Anda teadmisi töökoha ja -vahendite ergonoomikast ja ergonoomilisuse hindamisest.
- Anda algteadmised arendamaks uusi toote ja/või teenuskontseptsioone keskkonnasäästliku ning jätkusuutliku disaini seisukohtadest lähtuvalt.

- To give an overview of product development, design, role of invention/innovation, of present and future Technologies and to give practical team work experience in product development projects.
- To provide elementary knowledge required for sustainable and environment-friendly product/service development.
- To introduce fundamentals of modern ergonomics and its social significance. To introduce workplace ergonomics and assessment of ergonomics.

Üliõpilane:
- analüüsib toodete erinevaid omadusi;
- oskab üles ehitada uue tootearendusprojekti struktuuri, jaotada meeskonnas ülesandeid ning võtta vastu ühiseid otsuseid kasutades õppeaines omandatud teadmisi;
- analüüsib ja põhjendab ülesannet projekteerides ja argumenteeritult oma seisukohti;
- ühendab disaini põhimõtted inseneriharidusega;
- analüüsida olemasolevate toote- ja teenusekoosluste probleeme ning genereerib ideid uuteks lahendusteks, lähtudes keskkonnasäästliku ja jätkusuutliku disaini printsiipidest;
- tunneb toote ergonoomika printsiipe.

- is able to analyse different product features and qualities;
- is able to prepare a new product development project, distribute tasks within a team and - - make common decisions based on the knowledge obtained during the course;
- is able to manually draft/sketch conceptual design;
- can analyse design problems; is able to explain and defend his/her concept in an argumentative way;
- can link design principles with engineering;
- is able to analyse problems of existing product and service cluster; can generate ideas for new sustainable and environment-friendly solutions;
- knows the principles of product ergonomics.
