Anda üliõpilastele ülevaade peamistest väikelaevaehituses vajalikest katsetest ja katsemeetoditest.
Tutvustada väikelaeva staatilise ja dünaamilise katsetamise (ujuvuskatsed ja mudelkatsed) metoodikat ning katsetel kasutatavat kaasaegset riist- ja tarkvara.
Anda ülevaade väikelaevas kasutatavate materjalide katsetamise põhimõtetest ja meetoditest.
Viia üliõpilased kurssi katsete praktilise korraldamise ja läbiviimisega: katsetulemuste, analüüs ja hindamisega ning katsearuande koostamisega.

The course provides an overview of the main types and methods of testing in small craft building, introduces methods of static and dynamic testing (buoyancy tests and model tests) and the measuring instruments and software, as well as the principles and methods of testing hull materials. The students will learn how to organise and conduct tests, analyse and assess test results and how to prepare test reports.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- orienteerub kursusel käsitletud teemades ning oskab ette valmistada ja läbi viia lihtsamaid laeva ujuvuse ja püstuvuse katseid;
- omab ettekujutust mudelkatsetest ja nende tulemuste analüüsist;
- koostab katse aruannet.
- tunneb erinevate materjalide katsetamise ja testimise printsiipe ja kasutavat aparatuuri;
- viib läbi lihtsamaid materjalikatsetusi ning kasutab katsetulemusi.

On completion of the course, the student:
- knows the requirements of buoyancy and stability for small craft.
- prepares and conducts basic buoyancy and stability tests and compiles a test report.
- knows the testing principles of different materials and their physical and mechanical properties;
- does basic material testing;
- uses measuring instruments.

Froude’i ja Reynolds’i kriteeriumid ning nende tähtsus mudelkatsete planeerimisel ning tulemuste rakendamisel. Tulemuste töötlemine teoreetiliste ja empiiriliste meetodite abil. Mudelkatsetulemuste rakendatavus väikelaevade projekteerimisel. Laeva ujuvuse ja püstuvuse katsete metoodika, kasutatavad standardid ja katsete läbiviimiseks vajalikud seadmed ja vahendid. Laeva ja väikelaeva ning nende mudelite sõidu- ja manööverdamiskatsete korraldamine: katsed katsebasseinis ning vabaveekogu tingimustes. Püstuvuse ja ujuvuse hindamine. Disainikategooria määramine ja sellest tulenevad katsete hulgad.
Katsete korraldamise metoodika. Materjalide erinevate omaduste katsetamine: mehaanilised ja füüsikalised omadused. Mõõteriistade põhitüübid, mõõtevigade hindamine. Katse korraldamine: ettevalmistamine, läbiviimine, tulemuste järeltöötlus, hindamine ja esitamine.

The Froude and Reynolds criteria and their role in planning model testing and application of test results. Processing of test results. Application of model test results in small craft design. Methods and standards of testing buoyancy and stability.
Navigation and manoeuvring tests in a towing tank and open-water testing. Assessing and classification of stability and buoyancy. Design categories and test series.
Material properties and testing of materials. Testing methods, testing equipment and measuring instruments; evaluation of errors of measurement. Preparation and conducting of tests, processing and reporting of test results.

3-4 praktikumitööd koos aruannetega katsebasseinis ja materjalide katselaboris läbiviidavate katsete kohta.
Kursus loetakse arvestatuks kui kõik esitatud aruanded ületavad kehtestatud soorituslävendi.

Pass/fail assessment. To pass the course, students have to submit 3-4 practical assignments together with reports of the tests carried out in the towing tank and in materials testing lab. All submitted reports have to meet the requirements set to test reports.
