Omab teadmisi metallide ja sulamite struktuurist ja kristallisatsioonist. Teab põhilisi materjalide mehaanilise katsetamise viise ja nende abil määratavaid omadusi. Omab teadmisi põhiliste rauasüsinikusulamite – teraste ja malmide koostisest ja omadustest ning nende mõjutamisest läbi termotöötluse. Omab ülevaadet põhilistest mitteraudmetallidest ja mitterauasulameist. Tunneb põhilisi mittemetalseid materjale. Omab ülevaadet materjalide saamise- ja töötlemise põhiprotsessidest, seadmetest, tööriistadest, töö parameetritest: valu ja survetöötlemine, lõiketöötlemine, mittetraditsioonilised töötlemismeetodid, keevitamine. Oskab rakendada teadmisi lihtsamate toodete valmistamise meetodite tehnilis- majanduslikuks analüüsiks, valu-, lõiketöötlemise ja keevitamise protsesside kavandamiseks.

Obtain knowledge on structure and crystallization of metallic materials and alloys. Obtain knowledge on mechanical properties of materials and testing methods. Obtain knowledge on iron-based materials – cast iron and steel, their properties and heat treatment. Obtain knowledge on non-ferrous metals and alloys. Obtain knowledge on plastics and composites. Obtain knowledge on metal casting, forming, machining and welding processes. Apply their knowledge to select and design manufacturing process for production machine components.

Metallide töötlemise tehnoloogilised protsessid. Survetöötlemine, metallurgiatööstuse pooltoodete tootmine valtsimise, ekstrudeerimise, tõmbamise teel. Metallide, sulamite struktuur. Materjalide omadused ja katsetamine. Rauasulamid. Fe-Fe3C faasidiagramm, faasimuutused rauasüsinikusulameis, terased ja malmid. Terase termotöötlus. Mitterauasulamid.

Technological processes of metal-working. Pressure processing, the production of semi finished metallurgical products by rolling, extrusion, drawing. The structure of metals and alloys. The properties of materials. Iron alloys. Fe-Fe3C phase diagram, phase transformations in iron-carbon alloys, steels, cast irons. Thermal processing of steel. Non-ferrous alloys.
