Aine raames tutvub üliõpilane peamiste nähtustega mehaanikas, elektromagnetismis, optikas ja kvantoptikas. Ta arendab võimet rakendada füüsikalist mõtlemist (seletada looduses esinevaid protsesse ja teha ennustusi) ning lahendada probleeme mainitud füüsika valdkondades. Üliõpilane tutvub mõõtmisteooria ja -tehnikaga ning suudab iseseisvalt füüsikalisi mõõtmiseid läbi viia.

Within the subject, the student gets to know the main phenomena in mechanics, electromagnetism, optics and quantum optics. He develops the ability to apply physical thinking (explain processes occurring in nature and make predictions) and solve problems in the mentioned fields of physics. The student becomes familiar with measurement theory and technique and is able to independently carry out physical measurements.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- mõõdab erinevaid füüsikalisi protsesse iseloomustavaid suurusi (mehaanikas, elektromagnetismis ja optikas);
- töötleb mõõtmistulemusi ja hindab mõõtemääramatust;
- seostab mehaanikat, elektromagnetismi ja optikat meid ümbritseva elukeskkonna nähtuste kirjeldamisel ning analüüsil;
- lahendab mehaanika, elektromagnetismi ja optika probleeme ning interpreteerib tulemusi.

After completing this course, the student:
- measures quantities characterizing various physical processes (in mechanics, electromagnetism and optics);
- processes measurement results and evaluates measurement uncertainty;
- relates mechanics, electromagnetism and optics in the description and analysis of the phenomena of the living environment around us;
- solves problems of mechanics, electromagnetism and optics and interprets the results.
