Õppeaine eduka läbimise järel üliõpilane tunneb süsteemi projekteerimise printsiipe, oskab selgitada projekti erinevaid etappe; hindab projekteerimisvahendite ja -keskkondade funktsionaalseid omadusi ja võimalusi; uute projektide ettevalmistamisel koostab automaatikaprojektide iseloomulikud põhiskeemid vastavalt kohalikele tingimustele ja viib läbi teostatavusanalüüsi.

After successful study of the course a student knows principles of planning of a system design, various stages of execution when designing an automation system; evaluates properties and possibilities of automation means and programming environment chosen for the project; when executing the project is able to make the basic schemes of automation according to the project problems and to analyze the project.

Iseseisva töö orienteeruvaks mahuks eeldatakse 32 tundi. Sellest 8 tundi on mõeldud aine teoreetilise osa iseseisvaks omandamiseks, 24 tundi praktiliste töö ettevalmistamiseks ja ülesannete lahendamiseks.
