VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- anda süvendatud teadmised olelusringi hindamise metoodika raamistikust, põhiprintsiipidest ja arendamise ajaloost ning selle seostest teiste keskkonnajuhtimisvahenditega;
- arendada üliõpilase oskust analüüsida ja modelleerida tootesüsteeme, integreerides keskkonnakaitselised, majanduslikud ja tehnoloogilised aspektid ka piiratud informatsiooni tingimustes;
- kujundada praktiline pädevus olelusringi kaardistamisel ja OpenLCA tarkvara algtasemel kasutamisel;
arendada üliõpilase võimet analüüsida erialaseid teadusartikleid, hinnata nende rakendatavust ning põhjendada oma lahenduste mõju kestlikkuse ja eriala tulevikusuundade kontekstis;
-toetada loovuse, strateegilise mõtlemise ja koostööoskuste arengut, sealhulgas tulemuste professionaalset esitlemist ja teiste õppimise toetamist.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to:
- provide in-depth knowledge of the framework, basic principles, and history of development of the life cycle assessment methodology and its connections with other environmental management tools;
- develop the student's ability to analyse and model product systems, integrating environmental, economic, and technological aspects even in conditions of limited information;
- develop practical competence in life cycle mapping and basic use of OpenLCA software;
- develop the student's ability to analyse professional research articles, assess their applicability, and justify the impact of their solutions in the context of sustainability and future trends in the field;
- support the development of creativity, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills, including professional presentation of results and support for the learning of others.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- rakendab olelusringi hindamise (LCA) metoodikat erinevates kontekstides, seostades metoodika põhimõtteid ja arengulugu tänapäevaste keskkonnaalaste väljakutsete ning otsustusprotsessidega;
- kaardistab toote olelusringi ja seob saadud tulemused kestlike ning strateegiliste otsustega, rakendades tööprotsessis loovust, algatusvõimet ja vastutust ning panustades koostöise õppimise toetamisse;
- analüüsib tootesüsteeme ning nendega seotud tööstuslikke ja keskkonnaprotsesse, integreerides probleemide lahendamisel keskkonnakaitselised, majanduslikud ja tehnoloogilised aspektid ka piiratud informatsiooni tingimustes;

learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing this course the student:
- applies the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology in different contexts, relating the principles and development history of the method of contemporary environmental challenges and decision-making processes.
- maps the product life cycle and links the results obtained with sustainable and strategic decisions, applying creativity, initiative, and responsibility in the work process and contributing to supporting collaborative learning.
- analyzes product systems and related industrial and environmental processes, integrating environmental, economic, and technological aspects in solving problems even in conditions of limited information;
- uses the basic OpenLCA software for analyzing product systems and presents and justifies the results of their independent work to the audience, relating the impact of solutions to future trends in the field and broader social processes.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Grupitööna tehakse tarkvara abil olelusringi hindamine valitud tootele.

The history of the development of the method and its formation will be introduced. Why and how to assess the life cycle of a product will be explained, and all stages of the assessment will be taught – setting the goal and scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment, and interpreting the results. Practical work will be carried out using the OpenLCA software. As a group work, a life cycle assessment will be carried out using the software for a selected product.
