Aine eesmärk on:
- anda ülevaade inimgeograafia põhimõistetest ja koolkondadest;
- luua eeldused ruumilise planeerimise teoreetiliste ja praktiliste aspektide mõistmiseks;
- õpetada analüüsima seoseid inimtegevuse, keskkonna ja ruumilise arengu vahel;
- arendada oskust kasutada geograafilisi ja planeerimisalaseid teadmisi ruumilise arengu probleemide lahendamisel.

The aim of this course is to:
- provide an overview of the key concepts and schools of thought in human geography;
- create prerequisites for understanding theoretical and practical aspects of spatial planning;
- teach students to analyse the interrelations between human activity, environment, and spatial development;
- develop skills to apply geographical and planning knowledge in solving spatial development problems.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab inimgeograafia põhimõisteid ja peamisi koolkondi;
- analüüsib ruumilise planeerimise rolli ühiskonna ja keskkonna kujundamisel;
- seostab teooriat konkreetsete piirkondlike ja linnaliste arenguprobleemidega;
- rakendab ruumilise analüüsi meetodeid inimgeograafiliste nähtuste uurimisel;
- hindab planeerimisprotsesside kultuurilisi, majanduslikke, sotsiaalseid ja keskkonnamõjusid;
- oskab esitada ja põhjendada ruumilisi planeeringulahendusi nii suuliselt kui ka visuaalsete vahenditega.

After completing this course, the student:
- explains the key concepts and main schools of human geography;
- analyses the role of spatial planning in shaping society and the environment;
- relates theoretical knowledge to specific regional and urban development challenges;
- applies spatial analysis methods to study human-geographical phenomena;
- evaluates the cultural, economic, social and environmental impacts of planning processes;
- is able to present and justify spatial planning solutions both orally and by using visual communication tools.

Õppeaine annab tervikliku ülevaate inimgeograafia ja ruumilise planeerimise teoreetilistest ja praktilistest alustest. Kursuse käigus käsitletakse inimgeograafia peamisi kontseptsioone, sh rahvastiku- ja linnageograafiat, majandus- ja kultuuriprotsesside ruumilist avaldumist ning nende seost planeerimisotsustega. Eraldi tähelepanu pööratakse linnastumisele, regionaalarengule ja üleilmastumise mõjudele. Ruumilise planeerimise osas õpitakse tundma planeerimissüsteemi, planeeringute liike ja koostamise etappe, kaasamise põhimõtteid ning planeerija rolli ühiskonnas. Õppeprotsess hõlmab loenguid, seminare ja rühmatöid, mille käigus üliõpilased arendavad oskust analüüsida konkreetseid juhtumiuuringuid ja pakkuda välja põhjendatud planeerimislahendusi.

This course provides an introduction to the theoretical and practical foundations of human geography and spatial planning. The course covers the main concepts of human geography, including population and urban geography, the spatial dimension of economic and cultural processes, and their connection to planning decisions. Special emphasis is placed on urbanisation, regional development, and the impacts of globalisation. In the field of spatial planning, students learn about planning systems, types of plans and their preparation stages, principles of public participation, and the role of planners in society. The learning process combines lectures, seminars, and group work, enabling students to develop the ability to analyse case studies and to propose well-argued planning solutions.
