VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
course aims in English
The course aims to build solid understanding of atmospheric processes based on first principles of physics together with the accompanying mathematical formalism. The course integrates atmospheric thermodynamics; hydrostatic equilibrium and stability; radiation, clouds and aerosol; atmospheric dynamics and general circulation; interaction with ocean.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
The student has skill to describe the atmospheric processes with the application of framework of physics, understands the thermodynamics processes, radiation, aerosol, water vapour phase transitions, atmospheric stability and equilibrium, dynamics of circulation. The student has sufficient background and capacity to continue with any specialized discipline of atmospheric and Earth sciences.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Kursus kirjeldab atmosfääri struktuuri ja koostist, gaaside termodünaamikat ja jäävusseadusi, niiske õhu transformatsioone, kiirgusülekannet, staatilise ja dünaamilise tasakaalu printsiipe, liikumisvõrrandeid, suuremastaabilist tsirkulatsiooni, planetaarset piirkihti, laineid ja ookeani mõju.
brief description of the course in English
The course describes the composition and structure of atmosphere, thermodynamics of gases and

fundamental laws, transformations of moist air, radiative transfer, principles of static and dynamic stability, equations of motion, large-scale motions, planetary boundary layer, waves and interaction with the ocean.
