Õppeaine eesmärk on anda teadmisi ja oskusi keskkonnaandmete analüüsi põhialustest.

The aim of this course is to give knowledge and skills for the basic analysis methods for the environmental data.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- kasutab eri formaadis andmeid ja töötab nendega (teksti ehk ASCII andmed, Excel ehk tabelites andmed, paisktabelites andmed, netCDF formaadis andmed jne);
- rakendab andmetele eri matemaatilisi meetodeid;
- rakendab andmeanalüüsiks ise kirjutatud skripte/programme MatLabis või Pythonis;
- näeb ja leiab seoseid erinevate andmete vahel;
- leiab olulisi muutusi andmeridades.

After completing this course the student:
- is able to work with data in different format (e.g. text or ASCII, Excel or Tables, Hash tables, netCDF);
- applies different mathematical methods to the data;
- applies self-tailored scripts/programs either in MatLab or Python;
- sees the connection between different parameters;
- detects the turning points in the data-series.

Õppeaines tutvutakse erinevates formaadis andmetega, mis kirjeldavad mingeid üldteada keskkonna parameetreid (nt. õhutemperatuur, tuulekiirused, veetasemed, vooluhulgad jne) ning millele on võimalik rakendada erinevaid uurimismeetodeid – statistika, pöördepunktid, spektraalanalüüs jne. Analüüsiks kasutatakse ise kirjutatud MatLabi või Pythoni programme ja skripte, et suurendada õpiväljundite mitmekesisust ning kinnistada teadmisi matemaatikast ja infotehnoloogiast.
brief description of the course in English
During the course the student will learn about data in different format describing some well-known environmental parameters (e.g. air temperatures, wind-speeds, water levels, discharge etc.) to which different analysis methods can be applied – mathematical statistics, turning point detection, spectral analysis among others. For the analysis self-made MatLab and/or Python scripts will be used to increase the range of learning outcomes and tighten the knowledge of mathematics and infotechnology.
