VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
course aims in English
Give basic understanding of geological construction of oceans and seas, geological processes in marine environments, formation and evolution of oceanic basins and overview of applied aspects of marine geology and its main methods. Additional aim is to provide problem-based and teamwork-oriented active learning experience in solving interdisciplinary research questions.
To give an overview of terminology, shore types and classification basics relevant to geology of coastal processes. To introduce the main coast and shore types of Estonia. To give an introduction of coastal sediment movement and formation character, considering the balance of accumulation and abrasion processes. Special interest is focused on lithodynamical processes, based on examples of solution of concrete practical questions. To demonstrate concrete mistakes in shore management that have taken place worldwide due to insufficient theoretical knowledge or wrong interpretation of coastal geology.
