Aine eesmärk on:
- anda alusteadmised tähtsamate tööstuslike metallide (Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti) ja nende sulamite tootmistehnoloogiatest.
- anda alusteadmised ja esmased oskused peamistest konstruktsioonmaterjalidest (metallid, pulberkomposiidid, plastid) toodete/pooltoodete saamise tehnoloogia valdkonnas – valutehnoloogia, survetöötlemine, keevitamine ja sellega seotud tehnoloogiad, lõiketöötlemine, mittetraditsioonilised töötlemismeetodid, pulbermetallurgia – sh esmase oskuse valida tehnoloogiat ja selle põhiparameetrid silmas pidades toote konstruktsiooni, materjali ning tootmise majanduslikke ja keskkonnaga seotud aspekte.

Th aim of this course is to:
- to provide basic knowledge on metallurgy of the main engineering metals (Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti) and alloys
- to provide basic knowledge and primary skills on the main processes of product/semifinished product manufacturing from engineering materials - casting, hot and cold forming, machining, welding and related technologies, nontraditional manufacturing methods, basic powder metallurgy - including principles of selection of processes and related parameters considering relationships between product design, material, economical and environmental aspects of manufacturing process.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab konstruktsioonmaterjalina enimkasutatavate metallide (Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti) ja nende sulamite tootmise peamisi metallurgilisi protsesse;
- on omandanud alusteadmised konstruktsioonmaterjalidest (metallid, pulberkomposiidid, plastid) toodete ja pooltoodete saamise tehnoloogiatest ning nendega seotud põhimõistetest: survetöötlemine, valutehnoloogia keevitamine, termolõikamine, termopindamine, jootmine, lõiketöötlemine, pulbermetallurgia ja mittetraditsioonlised töötlemismeetodid;
- rakendab teadmisi konstruktsioonmaterjalide tehnoloogiatest lihtsamate pooltoodete/toodete valmistusprotsessi kavandamisel koos põhiliste tehnoloogiliste parameetrite määramisega;
- pöörab tähelepanu metallide tootmise ja konstruktsioonmaterjalidest toodete tootmise tehnoloogiatega seotud kvaliteedi-, majandus- ning keskkonnaga seotud probleemidele;
- on omandanud esmased oskused tegemaks tehniliselt ja majanduslikult põhjendatud valikuid tehnoloogiate vahel, tuginedes toodete/pooltoodete konstruktiivsetele iseärasustele, materjalile ning tootepartii suurusele.

After completing this course, the student:
- explains main metallurgical processes of production engineering metals and alloys (Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti) - have a command of the main metallurgical processes of production of engineering metals (Fe, Cu, Al, Mg, Ti) and alloys;
- shows basic knowledge and terms on manufacturing processes of metals, powder composites, plastics for components and semi-finished products: casting, cold and hot forming, powder metallurgy, welding and related technologies (brazing and soldering, thermal cutting, thermal coating), machining and nontraditional manufacturing methods;
- applies knowledge on manufacturing processes of engineering materials for designing of manufacturing process and determination of the main process parameters;
- addresses quality, economical and environmental aspects of production of metals and manufacturing of components/semi-finished products from engineering materials;
- has a basic capability to realize technically and economically justified manufacturing process selection on the basis of design features, material and production lot of components/semi-finished products.

Metallurgiaprotsessid: püro-, elektro- ja hüdrometallurgilised protsessid malmi, terase, vase, alumiiniumi, magneesiumi ja titaani tootmisel. Pulbermetallurgia protsessid ja materjalid.
Valutehnoloogia: Sulamite valuomadused. Valu liivvormidesse ja valu erimeetodid. Valandite kvaliteet ja valudefektide vältimine.
Survetöötlus: Plastse deformatisooni füüsikalised alused. Metallide kuumsurvetöötluse meetodid - valtsimine, ekstrudeerimine, sepistamine, kuumvormstantsimine. Külmvormimise protsessid - tõmbamine, külmvormstantsimine, lehtstantsimine.
Liitmisprotsessid: Keevisliidete tüübid. Kaarkeevituse olemus ja keevitusega kaasnevad nähtused (keevitatavus, deformatsioon). Põhiliste kaarkeevituse- protsesside olemus ja iseärasused. Elekterkontaktkeevitus. Tardfaaskeevituse protsessid. Termolõikamine ja -pindamine, metallide jootmine, plastide keevitamine.
Lõiketöötlemine: Lõikamisega kaasnevad nähtused, lõikeriistamaterjalid, parameetrid, lõikeriistad, lõikepingid. Põhiliste lõiketöötlemisviiside iseloomustus. Mittetraditsioonilised töötlemisviisid.

Metallurgy. Basics of metallurgy of ferrous (iron, steel) and non-ferrous (Al, Cu, Mg, Ti) materials.Powder metallurgy technology and materials.
Casting. Fundamentals of casting in expendable and permanent moulds. Moulds design. Casting alloys. Casting defects.
Plastic forming. Fundamentals of plastic forming. Hot-working and cold-working processes: rolling, drawing, extrusion, open-die forging, impression-die forging, sheet-metal forming. Forming of plastics.
Joining. Fusion welding, solid-state welding, brazing, soldering. Thermal cutting and coating. Weldability of metals. Welding distortions.Welding consumables and process parameters selection. Welding of plastics.
Machining. Processes of material removal: turning, boring, drilling, milling, broaching, abrasive machining, thread and gear manufacturing. Cutting tools and tool materials selection principles. Cutting parameters and fluids. Machinability. Nontraditional machining processes.
