Anda üldteadmisi metallide koostise, struktuuri, termotöötluse ja omaduste vahelistest seostest ning põhilistest metalsetest materjalidest (terased ja malmid, alumiinium ja vask ning nende sulamid).

To give the basic knowledge about the structure of metals, about the composition, properties and heat treatment of alloys, about the main metallic materials (steels and cast iron, aluminum and copper alloys) and nonmetallic materials also.

1. teadma põhilisi materjalide mehaanilise katsetamise viise ja nende abil määratavaid omadusi;
2. omama teadmisi metallide ja sulamite kristallilisest ehitusest, kristallisatsiooniprotsessist ning faasidiagrammidest;
3. omama teadmisi rauasüsinikusulamites esinevatest faasidest, mehaanilistest segudest, faasimuutustest ja rauasüsinikusulamite struktuurist;
4. aru saama termotöötluse olemusest ja läbi selle omaduste mõjutamisest;
5. omama teadmisi terastest ja malmidest, nende struktuurist, omadustest ja kasutamisest;
6. omama ülevaadet põhilistest mitteraudmetallidest ja mitterauasulamitest, tundma nende tähistussüsteemi;
7. omama algteadmisi põhilistest mittemetalsetest (plastid, keraamika) ja komposiitmaterjalidest.

1. have the knowledge about the main properties of materials and their testing methods;
2. have knowledge about structure and crystallization process of metals and alloys;
3. describe the phases, mechanical mixtures and phase transformations in iron-carbon alloys, structures of steels and cast irons;
4. understand the processes at heat treatment of steels and their influence on properties;
5. have the knowledge about steels and cast irons, their structure, properties designation system, production and application;
6. have the knowledge about the non-ferrous metals and alloys and the designation system of metals and alloys and their application;
7. have the knowledge about the non-metallic materials and composites and their application.

Sissejuhatus materjalidesse. Materjalide aatomkristalne struktuur, kristallivõred, aatomipake kristallivõres, kristallograafiatasandid ja -suunad. Materjalide mehaanilised omadused ja katsetamine. Metallmaterjalid. Metallide ja sulamite struktuur: metallide kristalne struktuur, metallide kristallivõred, metallide kristallisatsioon, sulamite struktuur, sulamite kristallisatsioon, faasidiagrammid. Rauasüsinikusulamid: Fe-Fe3C faasidiagramm, terased, malmid. Terase termotöötlus. Mitteraudmetallid ja mitterauasulamid: alumiinium ja alumiiniumisulamid; vask ja vasesulamid; nikkel, magneesium, titaan, tina, tsink, plii ja nende sulamid. Metalsete materjalide markeerimise põhimõtted. Mittemetallmaterjalid: tehnoplastid, tehnokeraamika; plastide ja keraamika tehnoloogia, pulbermetallurgia. Komposiitmaterjalid: metallkomposiitmaterjalid, plastkomposiitmaterjalid, keraamikakomposiitmaterjalid, süsinikkomposiitmaterjalid; komposiitmaterjalide tehnoloogia.

Structure of metals and alloys. Mechanical properties and testing of materials. Metallic materials. Structure of metals and alloys. Iron-carbon alloys: Fe-Fe3C- phase diagram, steels and cast irons. Non-metals and non-metallic alloys: aluminum, copper, nickel, magnesium, titanium, tin, zinc, lead and their alloys. Designation system of metallic materials. Non-metallic materials: engineering plastics and ceramics. Composite materials: metallic, polymeric, ceramic and carbon composites.

Eksamihinne kujuneb semestritöö (2 kodutööd, 3 testi) (50 % eksamihindest) ja kirjaliku eksamitöö põhjal (50 % eksamihindest), millele lisandub boonus (5 %) loengutest osavõtu eest (vähemalt 75 % loengutest).
