This course is an in-depth analysis of important aspects and case laws of biotechnology and intellectual property laws. Topics include legal aspects of biotechnology. Prior knowledge of intellectual property law is not a prerequisite.

- selgitab intellektuaalomandi elemente, nagu kaubamärk, autoriõigus, patent ja tööstusdisainlahendus ning nende vahelisi erinevusi;
- võrdleb ja eristab erinevate teooriate ja põhimõtete rakendamist biotehnoloogia ja intellektuaalomandiõigusega seotud küsimustes ja probleemides

After passing the course student:
- Explains the philosophical, historical and legal foundations of biotechnology and intellectual property laws;
- Explains the essence of various types of intellectual property laws such as trade marks, copyrights, patents and designs and their main differences;
- Compares and contrasts analytically the theories and concepts to biotechnology and intellectual property related issues and problems;

This course introduces students to the various areas of biotechnology and intellectual property law. There is an in depth analysis of key side subjects. Due emphasis is laid on appropriate case laws.
