Aine eesmärk on tutvustada üliõpilastele eestikeelseid baasväljendeid igapäevastes suhtlussituatsioonides, luua neis arusaam Eestist kui riiklikust, kultuurilisest ja ajaloolisest tervikust.

The aim of this course is to introduce to the students basic Estonian phrases for everyday communicative situations, to convey to them an understanding of Estonia as a uniform state, cultural and historical entity.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- oskab kasutada eestikeelseid viisakusväljendeid;
- on võimeline aru saama olmetasandi väljenditest (ülikoolis, kohvikus, poes, tänaval);
- on suuteline ennast eesti keeles tutvustama;
- tunneb Eesti kultuuri rahvuslikke sümboleid, traditsioone, ajaloolist tausta ja seoseid teiste kultuuridega.

After completing this course the student:
- can use Estonian politeness formulas;
- can cope with everyday communicative situations (at the university, in a cafe, a shop, in the street) at least on the level of understanding;
- is able to introduce themselves in Estonian;
- knows Estonian national symbols, traditions, historical background and ties with other cultures.

Eesti keel Indo-Euroopa keelte kontekstis. Viisakusväljendid. Numbrid. Ülikooliga seostuv sõnavara. Baasfraasid poes, kohvikus, bussijaamas jne. Lühiülevaade Eesti geograafiast, kliimast, majandusest, ajaloost, traditsioonidest ja kultuurist.

Estonian compared to the Indo-European languages. Politeness formulas. Numbers. Vocabulary associated with university. Basic phrases in the shop, in the cafe, at the bus station etc. A short review of Estonian geography, climate, economy, history, traditions and culture.
