• luua võimalused teadmiste kujunemiseks masinates ja konstruktsioonides tekkivate jõudude kohta, mehhanosüsteemide tasakaalust ja masinates kasutatavatest mehhanismidest,
• luua võimalused mehhanosüsteemide liikumise probleemide lahendamiseks vajalike oskuste kujunemiseks,
• luua eeldused konstruktsioonielementide tugevus- ja jäikusarvutuste tegemise oskuste kujunemiseks,
• luua võimalused teadmiste kujunemiseks masinaelementide ja moodulite kohta, nende valiku ja arvutuse põhimõtetest ning töökindluse tagamiseks.

To develop basic knowledge of:
• machine mechanisms and equilibrium of mechanical systems,
• general principles of mechanical behavior and strength of loaded bodies, and strength of components under combined loadings,
• functioning and structure of general-purpose machine elements,
• general methods of choice and design of machine elements with assurance of their reliability.

Õppeaine positiivse tulemusega sooritanud üliõpilane:
• oskab tasakaalustada konstruktsioonielemente ja leida toereaktsioone,
• tunneb mehhanosüsteemi liikumise põhikarakteristikuid ja masinates kasutatavaid mehhanisme,
• oskab arvutada staatikaga määratavate ja määramatute elementide mõõtmeid ning kontrollida tugevust,
• oskab analüüsida koormatud detailide jäikus ja stabiilsus,
• tunneb masinaelementide ja -detailide kasutusalasid ning detailide konstrueerimise üldmetodoloogiat,
• oskab valida või projekteerida masinadetaile, -elemente ja liiteid,
• tunneb ülekannete konstrueerimise aluseid ning mehhanismide ja sõlmede määrimist,
• oskab lugeda detailide ja koostude tehnilisi jooniseid.

Having successfully passed the course, the student:
• knows the principles of equilibrium of mechanical systems and is able to calculate reactions,
• knows the machine mechanisms and general motion parameters of mechanical systems,
• is able to calculate both statically determined and undetermined design elements,
• is able to analyze stiffness and stability of loaded elements,
• knows general methodology of design of machine elements and their applications,
• is able to select or to design machine elements and joints,
• knows general methodology of design of mechanical drives and lubrication of the machine components,
• is able to read drawings of machine elements and components.

Materjali tugevus. Jäikus. Pinge. Roomavus ja pingete relaksatsioon. Detailide tugevus tõmbel ja survel, pikkedeformatsioonid. Detailide tugevus väändel, väändedeformatsioonid. Detailide tugevus paindel, paindedeformatsioonid. Tugevusteooriad. Staatikaga määramatud ülesanded. Surutud varda stabiilsus. Masinaelementide vahetatavus, tolerantsid ja istud. Liidete tugevus lõikel. Keermesliited ja keevisliited. Tihvt-, neet-, liist- ja hammasliited. Hõõrdliited. Teljed ja võllid. Liuge- ja veerelaagerdused. Mehhanismide ja ülekannete konstrueerimise alused: hõõrd-, rihm-, hammas-, tigu- ja kettülekanded, kruvimehhanismid, reduktorid.

Strength of material. Rigidity. Stress. Creep and stress relaxation. Strength of machine elements in compression and tension. Deformations under tension and compression. Strength of machine elements in torsion. Twist under torsion. Strength of machine elements in bending. Deformations under bending. Strength theories. Statically undetermined components. Stability of compressed shafts. Interchangeability of machine elements, tolerances and fits. Strength of joints in shear. Threaded and welded joints. Pinned, riveted, keyed and splined joints. Pressed and clamp joints. Shafts and axles. Sliding and rolling supports. Design of machine elements: joints, shafts and axles, bearings, springs, etc. Bases of design of mechanisms and drives: friction-, belt-, gear-, worm- and chain drives, screw-mechanisms, speed reducers.
