Aine eesmärk on õppida tundma lineaarse ja mittelineaarse optimeerimise ning dünaamilise planeerimise meetodeid, andmeraja analüüsi ja mänguteooria elemente.

The aim of this course is to study the methods of linear and nonlinear optimization and dynamic programming methods, data envelopment analysis, and the elements of game theory.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- koostab ja lahendab lineaarse planeerimise ülesandeid graafiliselt, simpleksmeetodiga ning Exceli Solveriga;
- koostab ja lahendab mittelineaarse optimeerimise ülesandeid (kitsendusteta ja kitsendustega optimeerimine, võrdlev staatika, Lagrange’i meetod, Kuhn-Tuckeri meetod).
- tunneb andmeraja analüüsi meetodit ja kasutab seda majandusüksuste efektiivsuse analüüsimiseks;
- tunneb Bellmanni optimaalsusprintsiipi ja lahendab sellele tuginedes dünaamilise planeerimise ning võrkplaneerimise ülesandeid;
- tunneb mänguteooria elemente ja leiab Nashi tasakaalu nii puhaste kui ka segastrateegiatega mängu korral.

After completing this course, the student:
- composes and solves linear programming problems graphically, by simplex method and with the help of EXCEL Solver;
- composes and solves nonlinear optimization problems (constrained and unconstrained optimization, comparative statics, Lagrange method, Kuhn-Tucker method);
- knows data envelopment analysis and uses this for analysing efficiency of economic agents;
- knows Bellmann optimization principle and PERTH, and solves dynamic programming problems with the help of these techniques;
- knows the elements of game theory and finds Nash equilibrium both in pure and mixed strategies games.

Lineaarplaneerimise ülesannete koostamine ja lahendamine graafiliselt, simpleksmeetodiga, duaalse simpleksmeetodiga ja Exceli Solveriga. Transpordiülesanne. Andmeraja analüüs. Kitsendusteta mittelineaarsete optimeerimisülesannete analüütiline lahendamine, võrdlev staatika. Kitsendustega mittelineaarsete optimeerimisülesannete lahendamine (graafiliselt, Lagrange’i meetodiga ja Kuhn-Tuckeri meetodiga). Lõpliku horisondiga mitmeetapilised dünaamilise planeerimise ülesanded, Bellmanni printsiip, võrkplaneerimine. Mänguteooria elemendid. Nashi tasakaalu leidmine nii puhaste kui ka segastrateegiate korral

Composing and solving linear programming problems graphically and by simplex and dual simplex method and by EXCEL Solver. Transportation problem. Data envelopment analysis. Solving unconstrained nonlinear optimization problems analytically, comparative statics. Solving constrained nonlinear optimization problems (by Lagrange method, graphically and by Kuhn-Tucker method). Finite-horizon multi-stage dynamic programming problems, Bellmann's optimization principle, PERTH. Elements of game theory. Pure and mixed strategies Nash equilibrium.

Eksamihinne moodustub järgmistest komponentidest: individuaalsed kodutööd, auditoorne kontrolltöö ja kirjalik eksam (ülesanded + teooriaküsimused). Hindamisel kasutatakse lävendikriteeriumit, mida täiendatakse kujundava hindamisega. Üliõpilastele antakse tagasisidet sellest, millised on tehtud põhilised vead ja kuidas neid parandada (nt kontrolltööde ülesannete lahendused arutatakse läbi harjutustundides, antakse tagasisidet kodutööde lahendamisel tehtud vigadest).

The final grade is based on the following components: individual home assignments, a supervised test, a written examination (exercises + theory). The threshold criterion is used in the assessment. The students will be given feedback on their main errors and the ways how to correct them.
