Anda alusteadmised mikro- ja makroökonoomika põhimõistete, -seoste ja seaduspärasuste osas. Anda baasilised oskused majandusnähtuste vaheliste seoste ja majanduskäitumise analüüsimiseks nii indiviidi, firma, tootmisharu kui ka kogu rahvamajanduse tasandil. Tutvustada ülevaateliselt majandusteaduslikku lähenemist ja omandada oskus iseseisvaks kursusel käsitletud baasteadmiste kasutamiseks majanduse analüüsimisel.

to familiarize the student with the economic phenomena and their relationships as well as the principles and models of micro- and macroeconomics on the level of an individual, a firm, a market and a national economy; to teach students to think economically and use the obtained knowledge independently in economic analysis.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab ratsionaalse valiku metoodika olemust ning selle peamist kriitikat; lisaks on teadlik uusimatest metoodikatest;
- tunneb tarbija- ja firmateooriat ja nende moodsaid rakendusi;
- saab aru hinnateooria (turumehhanismi) toimimise eeldustest, toob välja põhjuseid, miks turud ebaõnnestuvad;
- selgitab mõningaid mikroökonoomika põhimõisteid (lõivsuhe (trade-off), alternatiivkulu);
- selgitab mõningaid makroökonoomika põhimõisteid (sisemajanduse koguprodukt, töötus, intressimäärad);
- nimetab majanduslikku heaolu, majanduskasvu, ebavõrdsust ja majanduse muutumist mõjutavaid tegureid ja selgitab, milliste mehhanismide kaudu need toimivad;
- analüüsib kriitiliselt reaalselt aset leidvaid majandusnähtusi.

After completing this course the student:
- is able to explain the rational choice methodology and its major criticism; in addition he/she is familiar with the latest methodological developments;
- knows consumer and firm theories and its modern applications;
- knows preconditions of the price theory (market mechanism) defining reasons why markets fail;
- is able to explain some microeconomics (trade-off, opportunity costs);
- is able to explain some macroeconomics concepts (Gross Domestic Product, unemployment, interest rates);
- identifies causes of prosperity, growth, inequality and economic change over time and explain the mechanisms;
- can critically analyse some economic facts in real world.

the principles of micro- and macroeconomics; the nature and method of economics; demand and supply; elasticity; production and costs; perfect and imperfect competition; gross domestic product; consumption, saving and investment; national income determination; unemployment and inflation; money and banking; monetary and fiscal policy; economic policy in a small open economy.

kursuse lõpphinne kujuneb järgmistest kirjalike tööde tulemustest: vaheeksam - 30%, koondeksam - 70%. Hindamisel kasutatakse lävendikriteeriumit, mida täiendatakse kujundava hindamise võtetega. Üliõpilastele antakse tagasisidet selle kohta, millised on aine omandamisel tehtud põhilised vead ja kuidas neid parandada. Selle alusel kujuneb kokkuvõttev hinne.
type of assessment in English
the final grade is based on the results of a midterm examination (30%) and a final examination (70%). Assessment uses a threshold criterion combined with formative assessment. The students will receive feedback on their main mistakes and the ways to correct them. The summative grade is based on this combination.
