Aine eesmärk on:
- tutvustada põhilisi orgaanilise sünteesi ja retrosünteetilise analüüsi meetodeid;
- anda ülevaade nende rakendamisest konkreetsete funktsionaalrühmade muundamistel ja keerulisemate ühendite sünteesi planeerimisel.

The aim of this course is to:
- introduce essential organic synthesis and retrosynthetic analysis;
- provide an overview of functional group transformations and their application in planning the synthesis of complex molecules.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- rakendab orgaanilise sünteesi põhiprintsiipide sünteesi planeerimiseks;
- tunneb tähtsamaid C-C sidemete tekitamise lähenemisi ja funktionaalrühmade manipulatsioone (sh kaitsvaid rühmi ja nende keemiat);
- põhjendab reagentide valikut konkreetse sünteesietapi teostamiseks;
- eristab kasulikke ja kasutuid retrosünteetilisi katkestusi.

After completing this course, the student:
- applies the main principles of synthetic organic chemistry to synthesis planning;
- knows the most important approaches for C-C bond formation and functional group manipulations (including protecting groups and their chemistry);
- is able to justify the choice of reagent for a specific synthetic step;
- can distinguish between productive and unproductive retrosynthetic disconnections.

Orgaanilise sünteesi eesmärgid. Funktsionaalsete rühmade saamise ja teisendamise põhilised meetodid. Retrosüntees: sihtühendi liigitamine süntoniteks - nende sünteetilised ekvivalendid. Funktsionaalsete rühmade kaitsmine keemilises sünteesis – alkoholide, aldehüüdide, karboksüülhapete ja amiinide kaitsmine. C-C sideme moodustamine karbanioonide ja karbakatioonide abil. Radikaalreaktsioonid, taandamise ja oksüdeerimise meetodid. Asümmeetrilise sünteesi põhiprintsiibid.
brief description of the course in English
Main goals of organic synthesis. General methods of obtaining and transformations of functional groups. Retrosynthesis: synthons and their syntetic equivalents. Protection of functional groups (alcohols, carboxylic acids, carbonyl compounds, amines). Formation of C-C bond with carbanions and carbocations. Radical reactions, main methods of oxidation and reduction. Basic principles of asymmetric synthesis.
