Antud kursuse arengubioloogia osa raames tutvuvad üliõpilased süviti põhiliste arengubioloogia molekulaar- ja rakubioloogiliste aspektidega kasutades selleks teadmisi avaldatud ülevaate- ja spetsiaalartiklitest ja nende konteksti tutvustavatest lühiloengutest. Käsitletakse järgmisi peamisi teemasid: evolutsiooniline arengubioloogia, regeneratsioon, tüvirakubioloogia ja regeneratiivmeditsiin, organogenees (rõhuasetusega neuroarengubioloogial ehk kesk- ja piirdenärvisüsteemi arengul), uusimad arengubioloogia meetodid (sh üheraku- ja süsteemibioloogilise tasandi meetodid). Tudengid osalevad seminaride jooksul aktiivselt debatis, kus analüüsitakse õppejõu poolt tutvustatud teaduspublikatsioone.
Neurobioloogia osa raames käsitletakse erinevate närvisüsteemi haiguste molekulaarseid ja geneetilisi aluseid. Alzheimeri tõbi. Parkinsoni tõbi. Huntingtoni tõbi ja teised trinukleotiidhaigused. Narkosõltuvus. Alkoholi- ja nikotiinisõltuvus. Meeleolu- ja ärevushäired. Skisofreenia. Ioonkanalitega seotud haigused. Epilepsia. Sclerosis multiplex. Insult. Närvisüsteemi traumad. Neuromuskulaarsed haigused. Amüotroofiline lateraalskleroos. Perifeersed neuropaatiad. Kesknärvisüsteemi kasvajad. Perifeerse närvisüsteemi kasvajad. Unehäired. Nägemine ja silmahaigused. Kuulmishäired ja kurtus. iklites kasutatud meetoditest.

In the developmental biology part the students will have obtained an in-depth understanding of the main molecular and cell biological aspects of developmental biology based on the knowledge obtained from various review and research papers chosen by the lecturer and mini lectures introducing the scientific context of the publications being analysed. The following main topics will be covered: evolutionary developmental biology, regeneration, stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, organogenesis (including an emphasis on development of the central and peripheral nervous systems), novel methods of developmental biology (including the ones based on single-cell and systems biology approaches). The students will actively participate in the debates during seminars where the research publications chosen by the lecturer are analysed.
In the neurobiology part the students will have obtained an in-depth understanding of nervous system diseases and their underlying molecular and genetic mechanisms. Alzheimer disease. Parkinson disease. Huntington disease and other trinucleotide diseases. Drugs of abuse, drug addiction. Mood and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenia. Channelopathies. Epilepsy. Multiple sclerosis. Stroke. Nervous system Neuromuscular diseases. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Peripheral neuropathies. Nervous system tumors. Sleep disorders. Eye diseases and disorders. Hearing disorders and deafness.

Üliõpilane saab aru loengute ja seminaride käigus käsitletud erinevatest arengubioloogia aspektide ja närvisüsteemi haiguste molekulaarsete ja geneetiliste alustest ja on aru saanud kursuse raames analüüsitud artiklites kasutatud meetoditest.
