VERSION SPECIFIC DATA
course aims in Estonian
Kursus annab tudengitele arusaama kaasaegsetest sekveneerimise meetoditest, nende omadustest ning kasutusvaldkondadest bioinformaatika perspektiivist. Kursus teeb sissejuhatuse genoomiülestesse bioinformaatilistesse lahendustesse, mis aitavad tudengil valida oma bioloogiliste teadusküsimuste lahendamiseks õiged meetodid.
course aims in English
Course will provide student with the understanding of modern sequencing methods, their specific properties and general applications from the bioinformatics perspective. The course will also introduce student to genome wide bioinformatics approaches and methods so that the student will be able select correct methods to address biological research questions.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Kursuse läbinud üliõpilane:
- oskab selgitada, millised on genoomi informaatika peamised kasutusalad, kuidas andmeid esitatakse, säilitatakse ja töödeldakse;
- kasutab sekveneerimise andmeid, et adresseerida lihtsamaid teadusküsimusi, kasutades de novo genoomika, geenide ennustamise ja annoteerimise, geeniekspressiooni ja populatsioonigenoomika põhimõtteid;
- valib lähtuvalt teadusküsimusest sobiva bioinformaatilise vahendi ja lähenemise selle lahendamiseks.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing the course, the student:
- is able to explain how the data is produced by modern sequencing methods, what are the basic applications regarding genome informatics and how the data is presented, stored and processed;
- uses sequencing data to address simple research questions using concepts such as de novo genomics, gene prediction and annotation, gene expression analysis, and population genomics;
- reviews and selects suitable tools and approaches for aforementioned research questions.
brief description of the course in Estonian
Kursuse esimene osa katab kaasaegsete sekveneerimismeetodite põhimõtte, nende omaduste ja kasutusvõimaluste tutvustamise bioinformaatika vaatevinklist. Ülejäänud kursuse vältel analüüsitakse nende meetodite abil saadud andmeid kasutades bioinformaatilist lähenemist. Tudengitele tutvustatakse peamisi bioinformaatilisi põhimõtteid de novo sekveneerimise, geenide ennustamise ja annoteerimise, geeniekspressiooni analüüsi, populatsioonigenoomika ja genoomi informaatika kohta.
brief description of the course in English
First part of the course will cover the basics of modern (next generation) sequencing methods and their applications and properties from the perspective of bioinformatics. During the rest of the course data from these methods will be analyzed using suitable bioinformatics approaches. Students will go through the basic concepts, such as de novo sequencing, gene prediction and annotation, gene expression analysis, and population genomics, in genome informatics.
