Õppeaine eesmärk on:
- tutvustada teadusliku uurimistöö metoodikat, teaduseetikat, teadustöö planeerimise ja ülesehituse küsimusi;
- esitleda allikmaterjali kasutamise ja viitamise printsiipe, tööde vormistamise juhendit;
- kinnitada lõputöö teema;
- panna alus töö struktuurile ja üldpeatükkidele.

The aim of this course is to:
- introduce methods of scientific research, science ethics, issues regarding work planning and outlining;
- present principles of using literature and citations, the guidelines of thesis preparation;
- confirm the subject of the master project;
- establish outlines of the thesis and its main chapters.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- toob näiteid teadustöö ning rakendusuuringute üldisest metoodikast ja teaduseetika põhiprintsiipidest, sh tehisintellekti praktilisest kasutamisest;
- kasutab oma lõputöös erinevaid allikmaterjale, neid kriitiliselt hinnates, analüüsides ning korrektselt viidates;
- on alustanud oma lõputöö koostamist (ajakava, ülesehitus, sisukord, kavand);
- vormistab ning esitleb oma lõpu- ja teadustöid ning ettekandeid korrektselt, kasutades TalTechi loodusteaduskonna ja geoloogia instituudi lõputööde vormistamise juhendit;
- esitleb oma lõpu- ja teadustöö tulemusi ning põhjendab oma seisukohti argumenteeritult;
- tutvustab nii oma uurimuse teemat kui eriala laiemalt nii akadeemilisele kuulajaskonnale kui ka väljaspool ülikooli.

After completing this course, the student:
- provides examples of the general methodology of scientific and applied research, as well as the fundamental principles of research ethics, including the practical use of artificial intelligence;
- uses a variety of source materials in the final thesis, critically evaluating, analysing, and referencing them correctly;
- has started working on his/her final thesis (timeline, structure, table of contents, and outline);
- formats thesis and presentations correctly, in accordance with the thesis formatting guidelines of the Faculty of Science and the Institute of Geology at TalTech;
- presents the results of final thesis and research work and justifies their positions with arguments;
- presents both the topic of their research and the discipline more broadly to academic audiences as well as to audiences outside the university.
