-Tutvustada põhilisi saasteaineid ja nende sattumist väliskeskkonda.
-Anda teadmisi instrumentaalanalüüsist ja analüütilistest meetoditest keskkonnasaaste kvalitatiivsel ja kvantitatiivsel määramisel.
-Tutvustada saasteainete seire põhimõtet.

-To give basic knowledge of instrumental analysis and analytical chemistry for qualitative and quantitative determination of environmental pollutants.
-To introduce the principles of environmental pollutants monitoring

-Omab teadmisi keskkonna saasteainete gruppidest ning nende mõjust väliskeskkonnale.
-Mõistab atmosfääris, geosfääris ja vesikeskkonnas kulgevaid saasteainete põhireaktsioone ja massivahetusprotsesse.
-Tunneb analüütiliste seadmete tööpõhimõtteid ja eripära.
-Oskab rakendada teadmisi keskkonna saasteainete kvalitatiivsetel ja kvantitatiivsetel analüüsidel.

- Has the knowledge of environmental pollutants groups and of their environmental impact.
- Is able to describe the pollutants reactions and mass transfer processes in atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere.

-Is able to apply obtained knowledge in qualitative and quantitative analyses of environmental pollutants.

Saasteainete tüübid ja üldiseloomustus. Orgaanilised ja anorgaanilised saasteained ning nende levik ja käitumine väliskeskkonnas. Analüütilise keemia ja instrumentaalanalüüsi roll keskkonnaseisundi hindamisel. Elektrokeemilised analüüsimeetodid. Spektroskoopia. Absorptsiooni spektroskoopia. Aatomabsorptsiooni ja emissiooni spektroskoopia. Kromatograafilised meetodid. Massispektroskoopia. Keskkonnaseire.

The role of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis in environmental assesment. Electrochemical methods of analysis. Spectroscopy. Absorption spectroscopy. Atomic absorption spectroscopy. Atomic emission spectroscopy. Chromatography. Mass-spectrometry. Environment quality monitoring.
