Teadustöö kvaliteedi määrab ära teadustöö koostamise metoodika tundmine, mis on ka selle aine õpetamise eesmärgiks. Õppeaine õpetab tudengitele erinevate teaduslike metoodikate põhialuseid ning põhialuseid meetodite analüüsist.
Magistrisemianride käigus tutvustatakse erinevaid metoodikaid teoreetiliselt ning analüüsitakse praktilisi näiteid. Toimub isesiesev töö eesmärgiga tõhustada üliõpilaste oskusi iseseisva töö tegemiseks teadusartiklite ja muude asjakohaste valdkonda kuuluvate trükistega tuvumise, ettekannete ettevalmistamisel ja esitlusel, loetud materjali analüüsimisel. Eesmärk on anda ka teadmised teadusliku ettekande ettevalmistamisest ning selle esitamise põhialustest, mis on vajalik rahvusvahelistel konverentsidel esinemiseks.

The quality of any research project will depend on good understanding of the research design. and thorough a nalyses of reseach desing methods is the purpose the course.
Different methodological approaches and scientific methods are analysed in theory and in practice. Analysis how methods will determine the results and the quality of results obtained with different methods is analysed. Independent work with different methods and research project with analysis of the results and presentation is included in the course. On successful completion of this course, students should be able to design and present scientific projects as groupwork.

Tudeng mõistab teadustöö põhialuseid, oskab analüüsida erinevate teadustööde erinevaid aspekte probleemi tõstatamisest kuni lahenduseni. Tudeng oskab esineda ja tutvustada oma tööd seminaridel.

The students will know the steps to start research from initial identification of the problem to the generation and testing of hypothesis. Students are able to select appropriate methods, do practical research and present their groupwork during seminars.

Süsteemne lähenemine teadustöö koostamisele. Teadustöö koostamise erinevate metoodikate erinevad elemendid. Probleemi püstitus ja arusaam probleemi laiemast vaatenurgast.
Informatsiooni kogumine. Hüpotees. Omandada oskus magistritöö teema ja metoodika valikuks. Iseseisev töö erialakirjandusega. Inglise keelse teadusliku ettekande ettevalmistamine ja läbiviimise kogemus.

A systematic approach to research design. Elements of research design. Identifying the broad problem area, problem statement. Data gathering. The hypothesis. Independent work with scientific publications. Masters students obtain experience how to prepare, design, do research, analyse data, formulate conclusions and present their scientific research at seminars.
