course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on anda baasteadmised diagnostilises ja menetlusradioloogias enimlevinud ioniseerivat kiirgust kasutavate kuvamisseadmete tööpõhimõtetest ja kliinilistest rakendustest ning tutvustada käsitletud seadmete kvaliteedimõõtmiste aluseid.
course aims in English
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the operating principles and clinical applications of the most used ionizing radiation-based imaging devices in diagnostic and interventional radiology, and to introduce the fundamentals of quality measurements for the equipment discussed.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- teab diagnostilises ja menetlusradioloogias enimlevinud ioniseerivat kiirgust kasutavaid kuvamisseadmeid, nende ehitust, tööpõhimõtteid ja kliinilisi rakendusi;
- hindab kuvamisseadmete töörežiimide ja põhiparameetrite mõju kujutisele, patsiendidoosile ja uuringuprotseduurile;
- selgitab käsitletud seadmete kvaliteedimõõtmiste põhimõtteid ja enamlevinud meetodeid.
learning outcomes in the course in Eng.
After completing the course, the student is:
- familiar with the most commonly used imaging devices employing ionising radiation in diagnostic and interventional radiology, including their construction, operating principles, and clinical applications;
- evaluates the impact of imaging system operating modes and key parameters on image quality, patient dose, and the imaging procedure;
- explains the principles and most common methods of quality control measurements for the imaging devices discussed.
brief description of the course in Estonian
brief description of the course in English
The course covers the generation and detection of X-ray radiation and the imaging chain in projection radiography, from the radiation source to the display. It introduces the main functional components of stationary and mobile X-ray systems, mammography units, fluoroscopy systems, angiography systems, and computed tomography scanners. The course addresses the operating modes, selectable imaging parameters, and their impact on image quality and patient dose. In addition, the principles of quality control measurements for the imaging devices are discussed, along with the measurement instruments, auxiliary tools, and phantoms used.
