course aims in Estonian
course aims in English
The course gives the overview of lab-on-chip (LOC) tehnology, fabrication of LOC, microfluidics basics, and methods of detection for point-of-care devices. Basics in sensors and microsensors, also perpectives and future trends of LOC are analysed too.

brief description of the course in Estonian
Kursus käsitleb liikuvate voolavate ainete baaselemente „labor kiibil“ tehnoloogial süsteemides. Sellistes süsteemides toimuv vedelike voolamine toimub tavaliselt kas ühefaasilises kanalis või tasapinnal (piisake kahe kihi vahel). Vedeliku juhtimine: pumbad, klapid ja segistid. Käsitletud on „labor kiibil“ seadmete tootmiseks kasutatavad viimased meetodid ja uusimad tehnoloogiad. Elektrokeemiline tuvastus kohtravi seadmete jaoks. Sensorite ja mikrosensorite peamised tööpõhimõtted. Hiljutised paberil ja plastikul põhinevate sensorite saavutused, tulevikutrendid. „Labor kiibil“ seadmete tulevikuväljavaated.
brief description of the course in English
The course discusses the fundamental elements of moving fluids in lab-on-a-chip (LOC) systems. Liquid flow in such systems is usually either single-phase channel flow or droplet flow on a surface (or between two surfaces). Fluidic Control: Pumps, Valves, and Mixers. The latest methods and novel technologies being developed for the fabrication of LOC devices and new approaches for fluid control and manipulation are described. Electrochemical detection for POC (point of care) devices. The main principles of sensors and microsensors. Recent advances in paper-based and plastic-based sensors, future trends. Perpective and future of LOC devices.
