- Anda info- ja andmehõivesüsteemide ning nendes kasutatavate elektroonsete vahendite iseloomustus nii nende kasutamise kui arendamise, väljatöötamise ja tootmise seisukohalt.
- Tutvustada andmehõivesüsteemides kasutatavate elektroonsete vahendite funktsionaalseid omadusi määravaid tehnoloogilisi, füüsikalisi, bioloogilisi ja muid protsesse ning nendega seotud signaale, samuti mõisteid ja terminoloogiat.
- Esitada põhiliste andmehõivesüsteemides kasutatavate elektroonsete vahendite ja nende loomisega seotud probleemide praktilised lahendused.
- Õpetada lahendama andmehõivesüsteemide väljatöötamisega seotud üldisi probleeme ja nendega seotud elektrotehnilisi ja elektroonseid ülesandeid.

- To introduce the characteristics and parameters of data acquisition systems and its electronic components taking in to account their different applications and also development, designing and production.
- To give an overview about the technological, physical and biological processes and signals determining the properties of electronic means of data acquisition systems, to explain the terminology used.
- To teach the practical solutions of data acquisition systems and means, and their components.
- To train solving of the main electronic engineering tasks connected with the development of electronic means for data acquisition systems.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- tunneb info- ja andmehõivesüsteemides kasutatavaid elektroonseid komponente ja sõlmi;
- oskab määrata andmehõivesüsteemides kasutatavate elektroonsete vahendite funktsionaalseid parameetreid ja karakteristikuid.
- oskab leida sobivamaid skeemitehnilisi ja tehnoloogilisi lahendusi ning signaalitöötluse meetodeid andmehõivesüsteemides kasutatavate elektroonsete vahendite jaoks.
- oskab rakendada andmehõivesüsteeme tehnikas ja tootmises ning teaduseksperimentides.

Having finished the study of the subject a student has to be able:
- to estimate functional parameters and characteristics of the electronic means used in data acquisition systems.
- to find suitable solutions of circuit design and technical realisation for the electronic means and subsystems used in data acquisition systems.
- to implement data acquisition systems in engineering/industry and scientific experiments.

Informatsiooni kogumine sensoritelt ja anduritelt ning selle muundamine, töötlemine, salvestamine ja tarbijani viimine. Andmete kogumise ja jaotamise süsteemide arhitektuursed lahendused. Mõõtmine kui infohõive. Mõõtmiste, signaalitöötluse ja arvutuste ning side ja juhtimise integreeritus. Informatsioon ja määramatus: infohulk, entroopia, häired, mürad ja mõõtevead. Infoedastus, sidekanali maht. Signaalide konditsioonimine digitaliseerimise jaoks. Digitaliseerimise printsiibid: signaalide võendamine, diskretiseerimine ja kodeerimine. Analoog-digitaal- ja digitaal-analoogmuundamise meetodid ja sõlmküsimused. Signaalide ja mõõteandmete digitaaltöötluse põhivahendid, meetodid ja algoritmid. Reaalaja mõõte- ja andmehõivesüsteemid. Tarkvarakeskkond LabView, virtuaalinstrumendid. Kohtmõõtevõrgud, andmehõive lokaal/regionaalvõrgud, Internetipõhised ja mobiilsed andmehõivesüsteemid.

Gathering of information from sensors and transducers. Converting, processing, logging and transmitting of data to the user of the information. Architectures of data acquisition and distribution systems. Measurement as information and data acquisition. Integrity of measurement, computation, data communication and control. Information and uncertainty: amount of information, entropy, noise and measurement errors. Data transmission, capacity of communication channel. Analog signal conditioning for digitising. Principles of digitising: sampling, quantising, encoding. Methods and key-problems of digitsing. Analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) conversion of signals, types of A/D and D/A converters. Means and algorithms for digital processing of signals and measurement data. Real-time data acquisition and measuring systems. Software environments, graphical programming (LabView), virtual instruments (VI). Personal area measuremnt networks, local/regional area data acquisition networks. Internet based and mobile data acquisition systems.

The self-dependent work of students consists in learning of the theoretical material on the subject, preparing for the laboratory works and making the reports the works.
