Anda teoreetilisi teadmisi ja praktilisi oskusi mõõtemeetodites, -riistadedes (ka nende tööpõhimõtetes ja kasutamises), ettekujutus mõõteriistade elektroonika osa riist- ja tarkvarast, automatiseeritud mõõte- ja testsüsteemides, füüsikaliste (eriti elektriliste) suuruste ühikutes, mõõtelahenduste täpsuses ja mõõtemääramatuses ja selle kirjeldamisest ja allikatest, kalibreerimisest ja etalonides.

To provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills in measurement methods and instrumentation (incl. principles of operation and usage), understanding of instrumentation electronics, hardware and software, automated measurement and test systems, measurement units (with focus on electrical parameters), precision of measurement solutions and measurement uncertainties (incl. the sources of uncertainty and their description), calibration and standards.

Üliõpilane:
- kasutab asjatundlikult ja metroloogiliselt korrektselt erinevaid mõõteriistu (mh multimeeter, ostsilloskoop, spektrianalüsaator, mõõtegeneraatorid, jmt.);
- hindab nii teoreetiliselt kui eksperimentalselt mõõtevigu ja –määramatust;
- valib mõõteriistu ja koostab mõõteskeeme erinevate mõõtmise ja testimisega seotud ülesannete lahendamiseks.

Student:
- uses different measurement devices (e.g. multimeter, oscilloscope, spectrum analyser, generator) in a professional and metrologically adequate manner;
- evaluates measurement error and uncertainty both theoretically and in practice;
- selects instrumentation and measurement circuits in order to solve different assignments related to measurement and test.

Õppeaine käsitleb järgmist:
- mõõtmiste ja mõõtetehnika alused;
- mõõtühikud;
- mõõte- (sh elektriliste suuruste) etalonid;
- mõõtevead ja määramatused;
- pidevad ja diskreetsed signaalid mõõtmises;
- mõõte-elektroonika komponendid;
- andmemuundurid ja nende metroloogilised karakteristikud;
- elektrilised mõõtesignaalid: lainekujud;
- mõõteriistade (multimeetrid, ostsilloskoopid, spektrianalüsaatorid, mõõtegeneraatorid) põhimõtted ja kasutamine;
- mõõteriistade riist- ja tarkvaraline liidestamine arvutitega:mõõtesüsteemid;
- mõõteriistade kalibreerimine.
