Aine eesmärgiks on anda ülevaade IT laiemast ühiskondlikust taustast ning vastastikusest mõjust ühiskonnaelu teiste sfääridega (seadusandlus, haridus, teadus jpm - n.ö. "suure pildi" tajumine). Lisaks laia profiiliga üldteadmistele on eesmärgiks ka eneseväljendusoskuse parandamine.

The goal of the course is to provide a ’big picture’ overview of the social background of information technology as well as its mutual interaction with other spheres of society (legislation, education, government etc). In addition, a secondary goal is to improve the self-expression (both oral and written) skills of participants.

1. Omandab vajalikud teadmised kursuse kirjelduses toodud teemade kohta ja suudab neid eksamil esitada
2. Koostab kirjaliku töö enda valitud ainekohasel teemal ning kannab selle seminaris ette (päevaõpe)
3. Koostab retsensiooni ühe kaasõpilase töö kohta (päevaõpe), soovi korral ka 1-2 ainekohase raamatu kohta
(kõik õppevormid)
4. Suudab kirjutada lühikesi analüütilisi tekste erinevatel ainega seotud teemadel (ajaveebis) ning töötada
läbi selleks vajalikku materjali (õhtu- ja kaugõpe)
5. Osaleb kursuse foorumis toimuvas arutelus ning teeb seda võrgusuhtluse häid tavasid järgides (õhtu- ja
kaugõpe).
6. Suudab teha võrgupõhist koostööd kaastudengitega (õhtu- ja kaugõpe); oskab kasutada kontoritarkvara ja koostöökeskkondi, sh tekstitöötlus-, tabelarvutus- ja esitlustarkvara ning pilvelahendusi

1. Obtains knowledge about the topics listed in the course description, and is able to present them at the exam
2. Writes a paper about a course topic and presents it at a seminar (day studies)
3. Writes a review on a peer’s paper (day studies) and optionally on 1-2 course-related books (all study forms)
4. Writes short analytical texts about course topics to a weblog, using relevant written sources (evening and distance studies)
5. Participates in the discussion at the course forum and shows good netiquette doing this (evening and distance studies).
6. Cooperates with fellow students using online channels (evening and distance studies)

      Individual works:
      Completing the Moodle e-learning material and completing the assingments and selftesting gives 30 points. NB! Completing each module on time therefore gives 5 points.
      • The deadline for passing Module 1 is 16.09
      • The deadline for module 2 is 30.09
      • The deadline for module 3 is 14.10
      • The deadline for module 4 is 28.10
      • The deadline for module 5 is 11.11
      • The deadline for module 6 is 25.11

      Review of fellow students' project - submitted in e-form, 30.09 gives 4 points, 9.12 gives 6 points.

      Group work (groups of up to 6 people):
      • 8-17 pages of written research paper and project solution/demo on a topic freely chosen, but related to the subject - gives 30 points, deadline 24.11.24
      • presentation of the project concept plan - approx. 5 slides, time up to 3 minutes - gives 5 points, deadline 30.09.24,
      final presentation - approx. 10 slides, time up to 5 minutes - gives 10 points, deadline 9.12.2024.

      In summary:
      Completion of the Moodle e-learning course up to 30 points (pass/fail)
      Review of fellow students' project up to 10 points (pass/fail)
      Group work project and report 30 points (pass/fail)
      Group work presentations 15 points (pass/fail)

      The prerequisite for the exam is to complete the e-learning material and complete the assignments, selftesting.
      Exam (optional) - multiple choice Moodle test with 20 questions based on e-learning material and additional material.
      Correctly answered questions in the exam give plus points, wrongly answered questions give minus points.

      Passing the exam gives up to 20 points.

      The sum of points is converted into the final grade based on the following principles:
      “5” excellent 91-100
      “4” very good 81-90
      “3” good 71-80
      “2” satisfactory 61-70
      "1" poor 51-60
      “0” failed 51
