course aims in Estonian
Kursuse eesmärk on anda laiapõhjalised oskused arvutivõrkude valdkonnas, mille käigus omandavad üliõpilased vajalikud teoreetilised teadmised ja praktilised oskused. Kursuse läbinu oskab ehitada väiksemaid kohtvõrke, hallata neid ja lahendada erinevaid esilekerkivaid probleeme.
course aims in English
The aim of this course is to provide the foundation in the field of computer networks and empower students to learn the required theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order to build, operate, troubleshoot a small local area network (LAN) using switches and routers.
learning outcomes in the course in Est.
Üliõpilased, kes läbivad kursuse, on võimelised täitma järgnevaid ülesandeid:
- selgitada kaasaegsete arvutivõrkude tehnoloogiaid;
- seadistada võrguseadmete peamisi parameetreid, nagu paroolid, IP aadressid, vaikelüüsi seaded;
- selgitada, kuidas võrguprotokollid võimaldavad seadmetel ligi pääseda kohalikele ja internetis asuvatele ressurssidele;
- selgitada, kuidas füüsilise võrgukihi protokollid, teenused ning seadmed toetavad kommunikatsiooni andmevõrkudes;
- kalkuleerida numbreid detsimaal- ja binaarsüsteemide vahel;
- selgitada, kuidas toetab MAC aadress andmeedastuskihis andmesidet üle arvutivõrkude;
- selgitada, kuidas toimib Ethernet kommuteeritud arvutivõrkudes;
- selgitada, kuidas kasutavad marsruuterid lõppühenduse pakkumiseks võrgukihi protokolle ja teenuseid;
- selgitada, kuidas võimaldavad ARP ja ND kohtvõrkudes andmeside;
- luua väikse võrgu disaini kasutades marsruuterit, kommutaatorit ning lõppkasutaja seadmeid;
- seadistada marsruuterit ning lõppkasutaja seadmeid;
- arvutasa efektiivsemaks võrgu segmenteerimiseks IPv4 alamvõrgu skeeme;
- rakendada IPv6 adresseerimist;
- kasutada eri tööriistu võrguühenduse testimiseks;
- võrrelda transpordikihi protokollide toimimist, mille abil toimub lõppkasutajate kommunikatsioon;
- parandada kommutaatorite ning marsruuterite turvalisust, kasutades selleks ettenähtud funktsionaalsust.

Students who complete this course successfully will be able to perform the following functions:
- explain the advances in modern network technologies;
- implement initial settings including passwords, IP addressing, and default gateway parameters on a network switch and end devices;
- explain how network protocols enable devices to access local and remote network resources;
- explain how physical layer protocols, services, and network media support communications across data networks;
- calculate numbers between decimal and binary systems;
- explain how media access control in the data link layer supports communication across networks;
- explain how Ethernet operates in a switched network;
- explain how routers use network layer protocols and services to enable end-to-end connectivity;
- explain how ARP and ND enable communication on a local area network,
- implement a network design for a small network to include a router, a switch, and end devices;
- implement initial settings on a router and end devices;
- calculate an IPv4 subnetting scheme to efficiently segment your network;
- implement an IPv6 addressing scheme;
- use various tools to test network connectivity;
- compare the operations of transport layer protocols in supporting end-to-end communication;
- configure switches and routers with device hardening features to enhance security
usiness networks.
brief description of the course in Estonian
https://moodle.taltech.ee/enrol/index.php?id=20212

brief description of the course in English
https://moodle.taltech.ee/enrol/index.php?id=20212

This course introduces the architectures, models, protocols, and networking elements that connect users, devices, applications and data through the Internet and across modern computer networks. It also introduces the principles and structure of IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and the fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations required to build a strong foundation for students who are stepping into the ICT field. By the end of this course, students will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes.
