course aims in Estonian
Õppeaine eesmärk on tutvustada erinevaid andmete salvestamise ja haldamise tehnoloogiate põhialuseid. Aine käigus õpib tudeng eristama olemasolevaid andmete salvestustehnoloogiaid ning praktikumides õpitu põhjal ka kasutama neid reaalses töökeskkonnas. Kursuse lõpuks oskab tudeng määratleda salvestustehnoloogia vajadust ettevõttes, rakendada õpitud teadmisi süsteemide haldamisel ja loomisel ning varundada olemasolevaid salvestustehnoloogiatel põhinevaid süsteeme.

The course is designed to introduce a variety of technologies for data storage and management fundamentals. During the course student learns to distinguish between the substance of existing data storage technologies, and lessons learned from the practicals, also use them for the real working environment. In the end of the course the student is able to determine the need for enterprise storage technology, apply the acquired knowledge in the systems for the management and creation, and back up the existing data storage technologies based systems.

Kursuse läbinud üliõpilane:
- analüüsib erinevaid andmesalvestustehnoloogiaid;
- lahendab juhtumiuuringus esitatud probleemi ning põhjendab saadud tulemusi ja tehtud järeldusi;
- valib ja rakendab andmesalvestustehnoloogiaid;
- nimetab varundamise põhimõtteid ning rakendab sobivaid varundamisstrateegiaid loodavale või olemasolevale süsteemile;
- töötab tulemuslikult nii iseseisvalt kui ka grupis;
- väljendab end selgelt ja korrektselt, kasutades erialaseid termineid nii suulises kui ka kirjalikus suhtluses.

Student who completed the course:
- is able to analyze various data storage technologies, describe their characteristics, and compare them;
- solves a case study problem, justifies the obtained results, and explains the conclusions drawn;
- selects and applies data storage technologies;
- understands and names the principles of backup and implements appropriate backup strategies for a newly developed or existing system;
- works effectively both independently and in a group;
- expresses themselves clearly and accurately, using professional terminology in both oral and written communication.

Õppeaine annab ülevaate erinevatest tänapäevastest andmete salvestamise ja haldamise tehnoloogiatest. Tutvustakse RAID, SAN (Storage Area Networks), NAS
(Network-Attached Storage) ja andmete salvestamise virtualiseerimise tehnoloogiaid. Lisaks tutvustatakse andmete varundamise, taastamise ja paljundamise tehnoloogiaid. Kursuse käigus lahendatakse grupitööna reaalseid valdkonnas esinevaid probleeme (juhtumiuuring) ning õpitakse projekteerima, rakendama ja haldama andmete salvestuse süsteeme.

The course provides an overview of various modern data storage and management technologies. It introduces RAID, SAN (Storage Area Networks), NAS (Network-Attached Storage), and data storage virtualization technologies. Additionally, it covers data backup, recovery, and replication technologies. During the course, students will work in groups to solve real-world industry problems through case studies and learn to design, implement, and manage data storage systems.
