course aims in Estonian
Kursuse eesmärk on omandada teadmisi integreeritud energiasüsteemide rakendamise kohta, et vähendada ressursside kasutamist, suurendada energiatõhusust ja digitaliseerida tehnoloogiat. Kursus annab teadmisi alternatiivsetest tehnoloogiatest, meetoditest ja juhtimisalgoritmidest elektrienergia tootmise ning tarbimise tasakaalustamiseks arukates võrkudes.

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge about implementing integrated energy systems to reduce wasted resources, raise energy efficiency and digitalize technology. The course will provide knowledge about alternative technologies, methods and control algorithms for balancing electricity generation and consumption in smart grids.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane:
- selgitab peamisi Smart Gridi kontseptsioone, keskendudes taastuvate energiaallikate, nõudluse juhtimise ja muude vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega tehnoloogiate integreerimisele elektrivõrku;
- hindab kriitiliselt sellega seotud eeliseid ja väljakutseid;
- kirjeldab tehnilisi, majanduslikke ja ühiskondlikke probleeme, mis on seotud energiavõrgu planeerimise ning käitamisega, mis tugineb katkendlikele taastuvatele energiaallikatele ja muudele vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega tehnoloogiatele;
- hindab erinevate arukate võrgulahenduste rakendatavust erinevate vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega energiastsenaariumide puhul.

After completing this course, the student:
- explains the key Smart Grid concepts with a focus on the integration of renewable energy resources, demand management and other low-carbon technologies into the power network;
- critically evaluates the associated advantages and challenges;
- describes the technical, economic and societal issues related to the planning and operation of a power network reliant on intermittent renewables and other low carbon technologies;
- evaluates the applicability of different Smart Grid solutions under a variety of low carbon energy scenarios.

Kursus kirjeldab üleminekut vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega arukale võrgule. Käsitletakse arukate võrkude ja säästvate energiasüsteemide põhiideid, keskendudes vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega tehnoloogiate, nagu „VRA“ (variable renewable energy), elektrisõidukid, soojuspumbad, HVDC ja salvestamine, kaasamisele. Pööratakse tähelepanu vähese süsinikdioksiidiheitega tehnoloogiate integreerimisele jaotusvõrkudesse ja täiustatud võrguhaldusstrateegiate rakendatavusele, et maksimeerida kasu ökonoomse ülekande ja optimaalse energiavoo rakendamisel.

Course describes transition to a low carbon Smart Grid. With a focus on the incorporation of low-carbon technologies such intermittent renewables, electric vehicles, heat pumps, HVDC, and storage, the fundamental ideas in smart grids and sustainable energy systems will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of low-carbon technologies into distribution networks and the applicability of advanced network management strategies to maximize the benefits in implementing economical transmission and optimal energy flow
