Anda teadmisi teadustöö üldisest korraldusest ja põhilistest kasutatavatest meetoditest, sh teadusinfo otsinguvõimalustest; anda esmased teadmised ja oskused katsete plaanimiseks, teostamiseks ja tulemuste hindamiseks ning vormistamiseks. Erialase teaduskeele lugemis-, kirjutamis-, kuulamis- ja kõneoskuste täiendamine Euroopa Nõukogu keeleoskustasemete süsteemi iseseisva B2 ja vaba C1 keelekasutuse tasemel. Õppida järgima akadeemilise kirjutamise tavasid ja väljendama end mõistetavalt teaduskeeles.

To give knowledge about general arrangement of scientific research and the basic methods used, including possibilities of scientific information seeking; to give primary knowledge and skills in planning of the experiments, their implementation, evaluation and drawing up of the results. The necessary knowledge and skills for the improvement of speciality-related scientific language (reading, writing, listening speaking) according to the requirments of B2-C1 scale of Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Follow the norms of academic writing and express themselves understandably in scientific language.

Õppeaine läbinud üliõpilane (1) tunneb teadustöö korralduse aluseid ja põhilisi meetodeid; (2) oskab plaanida katsetöid keemia- ja tehnoloogiavaldkonna uuringute teostamisel teadustöö vajaliku informatsiooni alusel ja vormistada teadustöö tulemusi; (3) teab ja oskab kasutada eriala-ja teadussõnastikke iseseisvaks tööks võõrkeelse erialase ja teaduskirjandusega; (4) valdab erialast terminoloogiat ja oskab esitada mõtteid selgelt ja struktureeritult nii suuliselt kui kirjalikult; (5) teab teadustekstide ja aruannete liike, loeb ja oskab analüüsida teaduskirjandust (lausestus, stiil, terminid); (6) on kirjutanud kokkuvõtte teadusartiklite või magistritöö põhjal; (7) oskab koostada ja esitada erinevat tüüpi ettekandeid.

After the course study a student (1) knows foundations and the basic methods of scientific research arrangement; (2) can plan experimental works when implementing investigations in the field of chemistry and engineering on the basis of proper information necessary for scientific research, can draw up the results of scientific reasearch; (3) knows and is able to use speciality and scientific dictionaries for independant work with speciality-related and scientific literature; (4) knows speciality-related terminology and is able to formulate ideas with precision in a clear and well-structured way both orally and in writing; (5) knows different types of scientific texts and reports, has read and is able to analyse speciality- related scientific literatuure (syntax, style, terms); (6) has written an abstract/summary on the basis of scientific articles or Master`s thesis; (7) is able to compile and present different types of presentations.

Teadustöö korraldus, põhietapid: alusuuringud, rakendusuuringud, tootearendus. Algteadmised teadusprojektide plaanimisest ja rahastamisest. Põhilised teadusuuringute meetodid. Eksperimendi kavandamine, sh vajaliku teabe leidmise allikad. Katsete plaanimise meetodid, katsetulemuste hindamise meetodid. Katsetulemuste vormistamine aruande ja artikli vormis. Teadusettekannete koostamine. Kirjaliku ja suulise teaduskeele iseärasused (stiil, sõnavara, grammatika). Teadustekst (sisulised ja vormilised omadused, liigid, teadusteksti iseärasused erinevates valdkondades). Mõisted, terminid ja definitsioonid teadustekstis. Uurimistöö struktuur ja vormistamine. Suulise ettekande koostamise etapid, struktuur ja vormistamine.

The main stages of scientific research arrangement: base investigations, applied research, product development. Initial knowledge about research projects planning and financing. The basic methods of scientific research. Experiments projection,including seeking for sources of the necessary information. Methods of experiments planning, methods of the results evaluation. The results of experiments drawning up in the form of the report and article. Compiling of scientific presentation. Pecularities of written and oral scientific language (style, vocabulary, grammar). Scientific text (substantive and formal characteristics, types, pecularities in different fields of science). Concepts, terms and definitions in scientific texts. Research paper structure and drawing up. Preparing an oral presentation (steps, strucutre, formatting).
