Kursus keskendub disaini rolli avamisele ettevõtete ja organisatsioonide tegevuses tõstes esile disaini, disainmõtlemise ja disainiprotsesside rakendamisest tulenevad võimalused ettevõtluse edendamiseks. Õppeaine eesmärk on luua arusaam disaini mõjust konkurentsieeliste loomisel ja seostest ettevõtte ärimudeli ja strateegiatega. Kursuse läbinud üliõpilased omandavad oskused, kuidas disaini kogu selle mitmekülgsuses ettevõttes strateegiliselt rakendada, kuidas luua toimivat disainikultuuri, kuidas toetada innovatsioonile suunatud organisatsiooni ning kuidas juhtida disainiprotsesse arenduses ja kommunikatsioonis. Eesmärk on koolitada disainiliidreid ja disainijuhte, kes oskavad välja tuua ja mõõta disaini loodavat väärtust ning müüa disaini oma organisatsiooni sees.

The course focuses on exploring the role of design in business and organizational contexts, highlighting the opportunities arising from the application of design, design thinking, and design processes to promote business development. The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the impact of design on creating competitive advantages and its connections with a company’s business model and strategies. Students completing the course will acquire the skills to strategically apply design in all its diversity within a company, create a functioning design culture, support an innovation-oriented organization, and manage design processes in development and communication. The course aims to train design leaders and managers who can identify and measure the value created by design and advocate for design within their organizations.

Õppeaine edukalt läbinud üliõpilane:
- mõistab disaini mõju konkurentsieeliste loomisel ja suudab disaini loodavat väärtust veenvalt esitleda;
- analüüsib organisatsiooni toimimist ja suudab läbivalt leida puutepunkte disaini tõhusaks rakendamiseks kogu tegevuse üleselt;
- juhib organisatsiooni disainiliidrina sidusa ja eristuva disainikultuuri (ja identiteedi) juurutamist ja arendamist;
- rakendab disainmõtlemist organisatsiooni tegevuste arendamiseks ja võimendamiseks;
- juurutab platvormipõhist disaini integreerides seda süsteemselt äripraktikate ja ärimudeliga;
- tegeleb innovatsiooni ja muutuste juhtimise ja juhendamisega lõimides disainijuhtimist;
- tunneb erinevaid innovatsiooniprotsesse (lean startup ...) ja põhimõtteid ning oskab neid praktikas rakendada;
- juhib disaini- ja tootearendusprotsesse, võttes arvesse organisatsiooni eesmärke ja laiemat ühiskondlikku mõju;
- suudab rakendada strateegilise mõtlemise ja planeerimise protsesse, hinnata meeskonnas enda ning teiste tööd ja vajadusi;
- mõtestab ettevõtte tegevust laiemalt, võttes arvesse selle ühiskondlikku mõju.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- understand the impact of design on creating competitive advantages and effectively communicate the value generated by design;
-a nalyze organizational operations and consistently identify touchpoints for the effective application of design across all activities;
- lead as a design leader in implementing and developing a coherent and distinctive design culture (and identity);
- apply design thinking to develop and enhance organizational activities;
- implement platform-based design, systematically integrating it with business practices and the business models;
- mentors and manages innovation and change processes, integrating design management;
- understand various innovation processes (e.g., lean startup) and principles, and apply them in practice;
- manage design and product development processes, considering organizational goals and broader societal impact;
- apply strategic thinking and planning processes, and assess his/her own and others' work and needs within a team;
- interpret organizational activities in a broader context, taking into account their societal impact.

Kursuse jooksul õpivad üliõpilased läbi erinevate õppemeetodite, mis sisaldavad nii teoreetilisi sissevaateid kui praktilisi juhtumipõhiseid analüüse ja uuringud. Õpe lõimib iseseisvat ja rühmatööd. Individuaalsed ja grupitöö ülesanded on kombineeritud sellisena, et nad võimaldaksid osalejatele teineteise tähelepanekute ja ideede peale toetuvat õppimiskogemust projektipõhises generatiivses õppekeskkonnas.

Kursuse käigus analüüsitakse erinevate ettevõtete disainistrateegiate rakendamist, et mõista, kuidas teadlikult sidusat disainikultuuri ehitada. Kesksel kohal on disaini võimaluste mõistmine ärimudeli kontekstis ja läbi disainmõtlemise protsessi organisatsiooni strateegiate kujundamine ja arendamine.

Kursuse praktilise tööna eksperimenteeritakse uute disaini strateegiate, kontseptsioonide ja ideedega, proovides erinevaid lähenemisi innovatsioonile ja testides erinevate teooriate kasutatavust erinevates praktilistes situatsioonides.

Throughout the course, students will learn through a variety of teaching methods, including both theoretical insights and practical, case-based analyses and research. The learning process integrates independent and team work. Individual and group assignments are combined to enable a collaborative learning experience in a project-based generative learning environment, where participants build on each other’s observations and ideas.

During the course, the application of design strategies in different companies will be analyzed to understand how to consciously build a coherent design culture. A central focus is understanding the potential of design in the context of a business model and shaping and developing organizational strategies through the design thinking process.

As a practical component, students will experiment with new design strategies, concepts, and ideas, exploring different approaches to innovation and testing the applicability of various theories in diverse practical situations.
