Magistritöö seminari eesmärk on panna paika magistritöö teema valik ja töötada välja teema käsitluse vaatenurk. Viia läbi töö valdkonna eeluuring ja panna alus töö struktuurile ning tegevusplaanile.

Tutvustada teadusliku uurimistöö metoodikat, teaduseetikat, teadustöö planeerimise ja ülesehituse küsimusi, allikmaterjali kasutamise ja viitamise printsiipe, tööde vormistamise juhendit.

To define the subject of Master Thesis and work out the aims and viewpoint of the project. To carry out the preliminary research on the subject and to establish structure and action plan of the thesis.

Introduce methods of scientific research, science ethics, work planning and outlining, using literature and citations.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane: 
- on pannud paika ja suudab esitada oma lõputöö teemat ja eesmärke;
- on viinud läbi töö teemat käsitleva eeluuringu, formuleerinud uurimisküsimuse ja leidnud isikliku vaatenurga teema käsitlemiseks;
- on otsustanud kavandatava töö tüübi üle ja püstitanud arendustegevuse väljundile esitatavad eesmärgid ja nõuded;
- on pannud aluse oma lõputöö struktuurile ja kirjalikule üldosale; 
- on kursis teadustöö ning rakendusuuringute üldise metoodikaga ning teab teaduseetika põhiprintsiipe; 
- oskab kasutada oma töös erinevaid allikmaterjale ning neile korrektselt viidata; 
- tunneb õppekava lõputööde vormistamise juhendit.

Upon completing the course student: 
- has defined the theme of the thesis and can present the aims of the work;
- as carried out the preliminary research of the subject, has formulated research question and chosen a personal viewpoint for handling the subject;
- has decided about the type of the work, established goals and requirements for the development project;
- has created the outline and introductory chapters of his/her master thesis; 
- knows main methodological aspects of scientific research and science ethics; 
- can use different data sources (publications, reports etc) with appropriate citations; 
- is acquainted with regulations and recommendations for theses at the curriculum.

Tudeng langetab iseseisvalt magistritöö teema valiku, viib läbi püstitatud teema eeluuringu, sõnastab täpse uurimisülesande ning planeerib oma magistritöö käigu ja tulemuse. Kogu semestri jooksul arutatakse samm sammult arenevaid teemakäsitlusi ühiste seminaride formaadis igal teasel nädalal. Erinevates etappides antakse täpsustavaid ülesandeid tegevuse paremaks struktureerimiseks ja mõistmiseks. Alustatakse eeskujulikult sooritatud magistritööde analüüsist ja lõpetatakse magistritöö raamistiku esitlusega.

Toetavates loengutes käsitletakse teadusliku mõtlemise aluseid, teadustöö metoodikat, teaduseetikat, allikaid ja viitamist, teadustööde planeerimist ja vormistamist.
brief description of the course in English
Student decides independently the theme of his/her thesis, carries out the preliminary research of the subject, defines exact research question and plans the outcome and process. Every second week during fall semester the development of the process is discussed step by step in group research seminars. In each phase defined tasks are handed out for better structuring and clarifying the personal study. For start exemplary thesis are analysed and the course ends with presenting the framework of the thesis.

Lectures give an understanding of the fundamentals of scientific and analytical thinking, methods of scientific research, science ethics, data sources and citing, planning research, regulations and standards.

Kursuse hinne kujuneb tudengi vahe-etappide esitluste (40%), projekti lõppraporti ja lõpuesitluse (60%) baasil. Vahe esitluste sooritamine on järgmise etapi läbimise eelduseks.

Kursuse lõpus esitleb tudeng magistritöö kavandi, mis sisaldab kirjaliku osa ülesehitust, teema püstitust, läbi viidud eeluuringu käsitlust ja magistritöö teostamise tegevusplaani.

Loengutes ja seminaridel osalemine on kohustuslik.

Grading is based on the individual performance of the intermediate tasks (40%) and project report and presentation (60%). All intermediate tasks are mandatory.

At the end of the course student is presenting the draft of the thesis what includes the structure of the written thesis, definition of the research subject and research question, preliminary research findings and action plan for carrying out Master Thesis project.

Participating in lectures and seminars is mandatory.
