Aine eesmärk on:
- anda üliõpilastele mitmekülgne ülevaade energiaturgudest;
- laiendada üliõpilase teadmisi maailma- ja regionaalse energiakaubanduse regulatsioonidest, energiakaubanduse toimemehhanismidest ning kaubandusega seotud väljakutsetest ja riskidest;
- avardada üliõpilaste teadmisi kütuse- ja energia hinnakujunduse siseriiklike- ja väliste hinnakomponentide mõjuteguritest;
- motiveerida üliõpilasi arendama oma analüüsivõimet, et mõista energiaturgude ulatust, toimimismehhanisme ja mõju ühiskonna ressursisäästlikule arengule;
- innustada üliõpilasi kaasa rääkima kütuse ja energiakaubanduse reeglistiku kujundamises, luua head eeldused omandatud teadmiste praktiliseks kasutamiseks.

The aim of this course is to:
- give students a comprehensive overview of energy markets;
- broaden the understanding of international and national fuel and energy trade regulations, operational mechanisms and principles, and risks related to trading;
- deepen students’ knowledge about the national and foreign impacts in the formation of energy and fuel prices;
- motivate students to develop their analytical abilities to understand the scope of energy markets, their operating mechanisms, and their impact on the developments in the field of environmental resource efficiency;
- inspire students to partake in the discussions on fuel and energy trade regulations and give practical preconditions for them to be comfortable with these subjects in the future.

Aine läbinud üliõpilane:
- käsitleb kütuse- ja energiakaubandust olulise osana energiamajanduses ning ühtlasi terviklikus majandussüsteemis;
- analüüsib energiaturgude struktuure, iseärasusi, turuosaliste tegevuse põhimõtteid ning eripärasid, sh turumoonutuste tekkepõhjuseid;
- analüüsib energiaturgude aktuaalseid probleeme ja energiahindade kujunemist avatud turul;
- hindab energiakaubanduses poliitilisi, administratiivseid ja majandusriske, nende esinemise tõenäosust, ulatust ning analüüsib riskide maandamise võimalusi;
- on võimeline koostama energiaturu hinnanguid, määratledes võimalikke regulatsioone, hinnates konkurentsivõimet ja põhjendades hinnakomponente, analüüsides nende mõju lõpptarbija hindadele;
- kujundab oma energiatarbimist, arvestades turuhindu.

After completing this course the student:
- treats the trade in fuel and energy as an essential part energy economy and as part of a comprehensive economic system;
- analyses the structures and characteristics of the energy markets, the principles and characteristics of market participants' activities, and the causes of market distortions;
- analyses current problems in energy markets and the development of energy prices in the open market;
- assesses the political, administrative, and economic risks in trade, the likelihood of their occurrence, and their extent and analyse the possibilities of hedging them;
- can produce estimates of energy trade, identify possible regulations, assess competitiveness and explain price components, analysing their impact on end-user prices;
- adjusts his or her future energy consumption, considering the energy market prices.
